Fifth Istanbul Carbon Summit to Address Industry's Climate Change Response Through Focus on Climate Finance and Energy Efficiency

The Fifth Istanbul Carbon Summit, organized by the Sustainable Production and Consumption Association (SÜT-D) and hosted by Istanbul Technical University (İTÜ) on 26 April 2018, will place industry's climate change response on the agenda with a focus on "Climate Finance" as the main theme and energy efficiency. At this leading platform on the subject, government, local administrations, civil society, business, academia and youth will come together to examine carbon management as one of the most critical requirements for sustainability management in combating climate change. At the "Global Climate Finance Developments and Turkey" session chaired by Hülya Kurt, General Manager of ESCARUS at the Development Bank of Turkey (TSKB), representatives from banks and financial institutions will participate, while the "Turkey's Industrial Response to Climate Change" session chaired by Rifat Ünal Sayman, Turkey Director of the Regional Environmental Center (REC), will discuss legislation and Turkey's path to carbon reduction. Prof. Dr. Filiz Karaosmanoğlu, Faculty Member at İTÜ and Chair of SÜT-D, stated: "We will present the industry's carbon management successes and best practices in climate change mitigation at our 'Carbon Management and Industry' session with senior executives from leading companies across different sectors. The high number of applications for this year's 'Low Carbon Champion Award' has energized us through the strong interest shown. At our summit, we will honor the successes of individuals and organizations in social and technical carbon management aimed at greenhouse gas reduction through our award ceremony. We are proud of our nominees. With the presence of Muhammet Balta, Chair of the Grand National Assembly Environmental Commission, we are expecting participants to say either 'I have something to learn' or 'I have a commitment to make' in order to put a stop to climate change at the Fifth Istanbul Carbon Summit," he said.
