DNA Exhibition at Galeri Mod

DNA Exhibition Curated by S.Çiğdem Koçak Awaits Visitors at Galeri Mod Between 13-19 April Turkish marks displayed on carpets, rugs, felt, clothing, accessories, stone, rock, wood, ornamental items, minerals, kitchenware, architectural structures, and tombstones are symbolic signs with extensive applications. When archaeological and ethnographic cultural elements are examined, it becomes clear that these marks unite Turks living in different geographies and speaking different languages. The journey of the Turks, beginning from the Altay region, has spread its impressive traces across many parts of the world. These marks, being one of those impressive traces, can be considered the oldest forms of symbolic expression and writing, similar to emblems, logos, insignias and brands used today. To preserve a society's culture, develop it, transmit it to future generations and keep it alive, one must follow the traces beginning with marks, which are symbols of belief, ideals and honor. Marks are instruments of a society's collective and hereditary images. In this study, marks—which are the source of Shaman belief—transform into motifs during a journey through the collective unconscious of Turkish people whose first belief was Shamanism, and carry the characteristic of being historical records that express socio-cultural life. For nomadic Turks who carried their homes, weavings and felts held great importance and became handicrafts. The richness and integrity found in the motifs of these handicrafts showcase the cultural wealth of the Turks. If the wise Turkish people, with a strong foundation in culture and art, apply their own distinctive marks to contemporary textile design, they will not only preserve their original values but also continue to leave their mark on the world through high value-added products. In this exhibition, marks researched from scientific sources were stylized and vector lines were drawn with a computer, then colored with fresco colors and digitally printed on canvas fabric with the contributions of Maya Tekstil. Additionally, the printed designs were adorned with "sashiko" embroidery technique. Galeri Mod'da 13-19 Nisan tarihleri arasında ziyaretçilerini bekliyor.
