16 October, the founding anniversary of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), is celebrated annually worldwide as both World Food Day and World Bread Day to draw attention to food security, the fight against hunger, and the prevention of waste.
This year, FAO is calling for cooperation under the theme "Hand in Hand for Better Food and a Better Future." Supporting this call, Frozen Bakery Products (DFU) draws attention to approximately 12 million loaves of bread wasted daily in our country, emphasizing the importance of frozen bread in the fight against bread waste.
"We are contributing to preventing bread waste with our frozen bread products"
On World Bread Day, DFU General Manager Ilgın Hasırcıoğlu called on consumers to practice conscious consumption and emphasized the contribution of frozen bread to preventing bread waste, thanks to advantages such as long shelf life and portion control. Hasırcıoğlu continued his remarks as follows:
"Bread holds an indispensable place on our tables in our culture. For this reason, bread varieties have a special place in our product portfolio; we offer a wide range with approximately 60 different varieties in this category. Our products, manufactured under hygienic conditions with innovative technologies, are shock-frozen in production conditions reaching -40°C, packaged with 1 year shelf life, and stored at -18°C in Turkey's first fully automatic frozen warehouse and transported without breaking the cold chain. In this way, our products, which reach many points throughout Turkey, increase customer satisfaction while also contributing to reducing food waste."
DFU products reach approximately 4,500 points
Hasırcıoğlu stated that DFU, with an annual production capacity of 22,000 tons and over 200 products in 6 categories, is one of the market's strongest companies. He noted that as DFU, they reach approximately 4,500 points together with restaurants, hotels and coffee chains, as well as canteens, mass catering and food service establishments. Emphasizing that the frozen food market is one of the rapidly growing food categories in Turkey, Hasırcıoğlu stressed that frozen baked goods are increasingly preferred by consumers each day thanks to advantages such as convenience, long storage periods, and consistent taste.
