Chemical Industry Under İKMİB Leadership to Create Employment for Disadvantaged Individuals This Project Has "WORK" in It

The Istanbul Chemical Substances and Products Exporters Association (İKMİB), which leads the chemical sector's export drive, is implementing an important social project to address the sector's shortage of qualified personnel. The "Chemical Sector Project for Combating Poverty" has launched, aiming to provide vocational training to individuals in socioeconomically disadvantaged positions and employ them in various sub-sectors of chemistry.

Within the scope of the one-year project, the target is to reach 100 people, at least 25 of whom are women, and to increase awareness in the sector on this issue. The model created will allow the project's impact area to expand in the coming period.

The opening meeting of the "Chemical Sector Project for Combating Poverty," implemented within the scope of the "Grant Programme for Social Integration and Development of Employability of Disadvantaged Groups" carried out by the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, the European Union and the Directorate of Financial Assistance, provided information about the work to be conducted and shared targets for the coming period. The meeting, at which İKMİB Board Chairman Murat Akyüz and Istanbul Deputy Governor Ahmet Önal delivered opening remarks, was also attended by Bağcılar District Governor Orhan Çiftçi, Esenler District Governor Hulusi Şahin and Gaziosmanpaşa Municipality Deputy Mayor Ahmet Berber. In his remarks, İKMİB Board Chairman Murat Akyüz, noting that they are aware of their social responsibilities, said: "Life unfortunately does not offer equal opportunities to everyone. However, we are not without the means to do what we can… As chemical manufacturers, we are rolling up our sleeves and taking action to ensure that individuals in socioeconomically disadvantaged positions are employed in our sector. With the support of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, the European Union and the Directorate of Financial Assistance, and our project partners, we sincerely believe that the Chemical Sector Project for Combating Poverty will become an exemplary model in this field and will expand its impact in the coming years. We are proud to be part of such a project that will bring about social transformation in regions such as Gaziosmanpaşa, Esenler, Esenyurt, Bağcılar, Sultanbeyli and Sultangazi" he said.

Murat Akyüz provided information about the work conducted within the scope of the project, which has a total budget of TRY 1,100,000, and said: "Within the scope of the project, for which we have completed preparatory work, we have started the Human Resources Needs Analysis in which we will hold meetings with our sector companies.

Based on the data from the analysis, vocational training will be provided to 100 people in socioeconomically disadvantaged positions and they will be certified. In addition, a Human Resources Portal will be established to facilitate their entry into the labour market. For a strong Turkey, we need strong women who can stand on their own feet. In this direction, at least 25 of the 100 people who will benefit from our project will be women. Through the project, we will also conduct awareness-raising activities on issues such as the difficulties faced by disadvantaged groups and social exclusion. We will visit 100 companies operating in the chemical sector and provide them with information on the subject. Through public service announcements to be prepared and workshop activities on various topics, we also aim to increase public awareness.
