Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Symposium from DEÜ

DEÜ Hosts Symposium on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants The 7th International Mediterranean Symposium on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, hosted by Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi (DEÜ), brought together more than 100 scientists from 25 countries. According to a statement from the university, the symposium, held in hybrid format at the Continuing Education Centre, addressed projects and scientific studies being conducted in the Mediterranean region. Speaking at the opening of the symposium, Prof. Dr. Görkem Akıncı, Faculty Member at DEÜ's Engineering Faculty and Director of the Science and Technology Application and Research Centre, noted that the symposium achieved very strong attendance. Akıncı stated that the university is committed to bringing new products to the country and the world that will improve people's health, and added: "The plant extracts we will produce with the infrastructure we have developed at our Science and Technology Application and Research Centre will be evaluated by the Traditional and Complementary Medicine Application and Research Centre, and their benefits for human health will be investigated. We have been conducting long-term research on medicinal plants at the Fauna and Flora Research and Application Centre. By strengthening cooperation among these three institutional structures, we believe we will develop products that benefit humanity. We thank our Rector Prof. Dr. Nükhet Hotar and all other stakeholders for their support of our research centres and the organization of this symposium." The symposium also featured presentations from active and accomplished scientists in their fields from Italy, South Korea, Spain, Austria, Japan, Romania, Slovakia, Portugal, Macedonia, Azerbaijan, Morocco, Iran, Tunisia, Algeria, Thailand, India, Serbia, Czech Republic, Croatia and Turkey. Furthermore, within the scope of the symposium, an "International Medicinal and Aromatic Plants R&D Project Market and Exhibition" was organized at the Torbalı Chamber of Commerce.
