Covestro and Chinese Partner Launch Ecological Project
China's thriving start-up landscape is opening new opportunities for raw-material producer Covestro in joint working areas. For this reason, the company has conducted a new, comprehensive study examining China's innovation ecosystem more broadly together with market research institute KAIROS.
A brief summary of the study is available for download. Among young Chinese people, the desire to become an entrepreneur is prevalent.
This aspiration is being driven by the country's policies and suitable investment support, as well as by commercial success stories such as Alibaba and Tencent. In 2017, more than 100 Chinese start-ups were listed on stock exchanges worldwide.
More than 270 companies are on China's "Unicorn" list—companies that are less than ten years old yet valued at more than one billion euros or higher. With EUR 650 billion in venture capital investment in global risk capital, China ranks second behind the United States.
Covestro is part of this development and is therefore exploring various options for joint collaboration with Chinese start-ups or investing in these companies. The goal is to share our own research and enable ourselves to learn from these start-ups.
