Çimsa Triples CAC Production Capacity in Two Years

Çimsa increased its calcium aluminate cement (CAC) production capacity to 197,000 tonnes annually with a USD 31.8 million investment in Mersin. Through investments completed over the past two years, the company tripled its CAC capacity and strengthened its leading position in the global market.

Çimsa, a company from the Sabancı Group, added to its investment initiatives in Turkey by commissioning a new calcium aluminate cement (CAC) production line in Mersin. Through an investment of approximately USD 31.8 million, the new facility with annual production capacity of 66,000 tonnes increased the company's annual CAC clinker production capacity from 131,000 tonnes to 197,000 tonnes.

With the new investment, Çimsa's CAC production capacity tripled compared to pre-2024 levels, while the company further strengthened its position among the world's three largest CAC producers. Çimsa also continues to be the only producer of CAC in Turkey.

Over USD 75 million allocated to CAC investments
In 2024, Çimsa completed its first capacity expansion investment, increasing CAC production capacity from 65,000 tonnes to 131,000 tonnes. Subsequently, with a new investment decision, the second capacity expansion in Mersin was also completed.

For the two investments completed over the past two years, over USD 75 million was allocated, while the company aims to support its global growth in high-value-added building materials production.

Umut Zenar, Chairman of Strategic Investments and Operations at Sabancı Holding and Chairman of the Board of Çimsa, stated that they continue their investments in Turkey with determination and said:

"Only nine months after our first CAC capacity expansion investment completed in February 2024, we made our second investment decision. Today, with production capacity approaching 200,000 tonnes, we have reached a level where we can single-handedly meet approximately 20 percent of CAC consumption in the global market outside China. This investment represents a critical step in terms of Çimsa's global building materials vision."

Contributing to high-value-added exports
Zenar emphasized that CAC ranks among high-value-added products, noting that at the Mersin facility, Turkey's natural resources are processed with advanced technology to create approximately 15 times higher added value.

Zenar highlighted that the investment is export-oriented, stating that approximately 90 percent of CAC products manufactured in Mersin are exported to global markets. He added that this investment makes an important contribution to Turkey's high-value-added export targets.

Strategic product in sustainable building materials
Zenar noted that CAC holds an important place in Çimsa's "transition from grey to green" strategy, stating that the company develops both production technologies with a focus on sustainability and increases the share of products with lower carbon footprint.
