New Investment in the Cement Sector

Medcem Çimento announced that it will increase the capacity of its existing plant in Mersin with a USD 210 million investment, raising annual clinker production from 3.5 million tons to 6.5 million tons. The company stated that with this new investment, it will rank among cement producers with the world's largest production lines.

Medcem, a subsidiary of Eren Holding and a domestic cement company, announced that it will increase the capacity of its existing plant in Mersin with a USD 210 million investment, raising annual clinker production from 3.5 million tons to 6.5 million tons. The company also stated that with this investment, which will provide approximately a 90% capacity increase, it is preparing to rank among producers with the world's largest cement plants.

NEW PRODUCTION LINE TO COMMENCE OPERATIONS IN 2023

According to information obtained from the company, Medcem Çimento, which currently employs 900 people including regular subcontractors, will also contribute to employment through this investment. The company announced that following the new investment, there will be a minimum 30% increase in direct workforce. Murat Kahya, General Manager of Medcem Çimento, sharing details about the investment plan, said: "We have completed all necessary legal permit procedures for the investment and have reached an agreement with German companies for the purchase of required main equipment. In this way, while we actively begin manufacturing work, we will also accelerate construction work at the factory site. Starting in early August 2021, we plan to focus on construction work and complete the work on the USD 210 million investment within a 20-month timeframe. We will commence production on the new production line in the first quarter of 2023."

NEW TERMINAL PLAN IN THE UNITED STATES

Referring to expansion of their international investments, Murat Kahya stated: "We have grinding facilities in Cameroon and Tunisia, and cement terminals in Russia and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. In the near future, we will put into operation a terminal in the United States, which is a very important market for us. We have begun feasibility studies for the terminal investment in the US and will conclude our discussions regarding the new terminal in the near future."

Murat Kahya outlined Medcem Çimento's future objectives as follows:

"Our investment plans and work that we plan to begin in the short term are proceeding at full speed. Although we are a young company, we are among the most important players in the sector. We operate the country's and Europe's largest single-line facility. With our USD 210 million investment, we will achieve approximately a 90% capacity increase at our plant in Mersin. With this new investment, we will become one of the world's largest cement producers, our country's largest facility and exporter.
