Clariant ColorForward® 2021 color trends announced

Color experts at Clariant ColorWorks® have identified four societal trends expected to influence consumers over the next five years. Clariant has released the 15th edition of its annual color forecast guide for the plastics sector. The 2021 guide reveals that personal interaction has become a luxury in the digital age and people are yearning for originality in a world detached from reality. On the positive side, technology is being used to create products that connect with people on an emotional level, while collaboration is seen as critical to achieving positive change. Judith van Vliet, Senior Designer at ColorWorks and ColorForward team leader, commented on the subject: "These trends result in a color palette for 2021 where contrast takes center stage. On one hand, people see colors they can find something of themselves in and which can still be considered original, while on the other hand, the colors reflect the drama of today. While cooler colors dominated the 2020 color palette, the color tones in 2021 have much warmer and deeper characteristics. Moreover, among this year's color trends are many semi-transparent shades that use special effects or have a certain appearance but make you feel differently." In ColorForward 2021, as in previous years, each trend theme is represented by five colors expected to appeal to people in the coming years. This unique tool can be used by plastic product designers and marketing professionals to make more informed color choices regarding new products and packaging.

Warm and Yellow Tones to Dominate in 2021

Judith van Vliet also stated: "While green tones dominated in 2020, warm orange and yellow tones are coming to the fore in 2021. Different shades of blue and green, from deep night tones to soft water tones, retain their importance. Bright tones give an artificial feel and are used together with captivating dark shades. The lilac tones from the previous version have transformed into deeper shades, adding mystery and depth to a generally vibrant color palette."
