“Meet with Science” Project Opens Second-Term Applications

Second round applications open for "Meet Science" social responsibility project launched by Bayer and YGA in 2021. •Bayer and YGA have combined their efforts on a project aimed at raising science literacy at high school level; second round applications will continue until 23 January. • All high school students in grades 10 and 11 who aim to develop innovative solutions based on science to address local problems can apply to the "Meet Science" project. • Bayer will provide funding to students for the local solution ideas of teams that complete all stages and reach the program final. High school students in grades 10 and 11 who wish to contribute to the development of science literacy can apply through the YGA website until 23 January 2023. The Meet Science project, which targets young people who are aware of their society's needs and problems and are sensitive to their surroundings, offers all applying high school students access to specially designed online curriculum and opportunities to meet and interact with many mentors who are successful in their fields. Twenty students selected from those whose applications are accepted into the program and who complete online training, after passing through various evaluation and interview stages, will be eligible to participate in a specially organized ideathon. The students participating in the ideathon, which will take place in April, will develop solutions and implementation ideas for the local manifestations of global problems in the areas of "healthy living", "food supply" and "sustainability" that also affect their own lives, with support from experts and mentors.  

Selected ideas will be realized with Bayer support

Two ideas selected by the jury from among the local solutions and applications developed by students during the ideathon will be realized with funding provided by Bayer. YGA and Bayer mentors will continue to support student teams during the implementation of the ideas. Two projects selected in the first round of the Meet Science project, "Vertie" and "Remember & Consume (Re&Co)", have reached the stage of being realized with funding from Bayer. Re&Co, developed by Azra Aytemir, Bilge Edebali and Zeynep Saraç, is a mobile application that enables monitoring of products in the refrigerator from a smartphone, alerts when products' expiration dates are approaching, suggests a recipe to help utilize food, and thus reduces food waste. Vertie, developed by Ali Şengül, Cansu Gençalioğlu, Eda Girgin, Eliz Üstün and Zeynep Sena Şentürk, is a vertical farming kit suitable for use in homes and schools.
