BASF Opens TPU Development Center in Wyandotte
BASF has opened an Elastollan TPU development center in Wyandotte, Miami, USA. The facility will enable customers to develop and test new TPU solutions without having to shut down their own production facilities.
Customers will also be able to evaluate formulations more rapidly, shorten development cycle times, develop production-quality samples, and most importantly, increase their speed to market.
thyssenkrupp Built Polyester Production Facilities in Turkey for SASA
thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions recently successfully commissioned a new polyester production facility project in Adana for synthetic fiber manufacturing. Designed to produce 380,000 metric tonnes annually (1,050 tonnes per day) of PET, the facility is among the world's largest single-line production plants for PET (polyethylene terephthalate) for textile applications.Düzce University Students Developed Prototype Vehicle for Formula Student Competition
Students of the Düzce University Motor Sports Club (MOSTOP), founded in 2018 under the supervision of Research Assistant Yakup Okan Alpay from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, developed a prototype vehicle for the Formula Student competition, one of the most prestigious competitions among engineering faculties worldwide. The vehicle's chassis was manufactured using carbon fiber and glass fiber composite materials, with its raw materials produced from carbon fiber composite materials that are significantly more durable and lighter than steel. The prototype vehicle was developed as a result of dedicated work by MOSTOP Advisor Res. Asst. Yakup Okan Alpay and students at the Composite Materials Laboratory within the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Düzce University Faculty of Engineering.New Composite Metal Foam Developed for Aircraft Wings
Researchers have developed composite metal foam for use in aircraft wings. Experiments demonstrated that it exhibits superior performance compared to aluminum. The leading edges of aircraft wings (slat region) must have a structure capable of withstanding very demanding conditions. New research shows that a combination of steel composite metal foam (CMF) and epoxy resin possesses more desired properties than aluminum, which is currently in widespread use. Researchers noted that although CMF has the same weight as aluminum, it possesses properties that make it more attractive in terms of safety and fuel efficiency, and that this discovered material has the strength to withstand demanding flight conditions.Lanxess Developed AI-Supported Formulation for Polyurethane Systems
Lanxess announced that it has further expanded the scope of artificial intelligence (AI) use in product development. The company has launched a project aimed at expanding its prepolymer range, with the goal of offering customized polyurethane systems for entirely new applications with diverse requirements by shortening delivery times. The Polyurethane Systems Business Unit has initiated a project partnership with AI company Citrine Informatics to leverage AI potential.Advertisement
