Aksa Enerji Commissions Turkey's First Standalone Electricity Storage Facility

Aksa Enerji has opened a new chapter in Türkiye's energy transition by commissioning the country's first standalone electricity storage facility in Şanlıurfa. Operating under a supply license and connected directly to the electricity grid without being integrated with any generation facility, the RASA Standalone Electricity Storage Facility stands out as an important milestone in enhancing energy supply security and strengthening grid flexibility.
Aksa Enerji has opened a new chapter in Turkey's energy transition by commissioning the country's first independent electricity storage facility in Şanlıurfa. Operating under a supply license and connected directly to the electricity grid without integration with any generation plant, the RASA Independent Electricity Storage Facility stands out as a significant milestone in enhancing energy supply security and strengthening grid flexibility.
The facility, developed by Aksa Enerji, which operates 14 power plants in 8 countries with installed capacity exceeding 3,000 MW, has 50 MW installed capacity and 61.93 MWh energy storage capacity. This next-generation energy infrastructure investment will support Turkey's energy transition targets by enabling more effective integration of renewable energy sources into the system.

Naci Ağbal, CEO and Board Chairman of Aksa Enerji, made the following comments on the project:

Next-Generation Energy Infrastructure Directly Connected to the Grid
The RASA Independent Electricity Storage Facility will operate connected directly to the electricity grid without being integrated with any generation plant. The facility will draw energy from the grid and store it during periods of low electricity demand, and transfer the stored energy to the system during peak demand hours to help maintain supply-demand balance.
The advanced battery storage system commissioned together with the 100/125 MVA capacity transformer center and switching station established under the project will contribute to more balanced, flexible and secure operation of the electricity grid. In this respect, the facility is not merely an energy investment but also a strategic transformation project that strengthens Turkey's energy infrastructure.

The RASA MEDT, serving as a pioneering example in the wider adoption of energy storage technologies, is expected to play an important role in more effective utilization of renewable energy sources, increased grid reliability, and supporting Turkey's energy transition targets.
