AKKUYU NUCLEAR A.S., the company building the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in Turkey by Russian state nuclear energy corporation Rosatom, has begun accepting applications from Turkish citizens who wish to study in master's degree programs at four Russian technical universities as part of a program to train future specialists for the facility.

The targeted program will be conducted at the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI (NRNU MEPhI), National Research University Moscow Power Engineering Institute (NRU MPEI), Moscow State Technical University (Bauman MGTU), and Kazan State Power Engineering University (KGEU). For the 2026-2027 academic year, 70 places have been allocated for education in nuclear and related fields such as "Nuclear Energy and Heat Physics," "Heat Energy and Heat Engineering," "Electrical Energy and Electrical Engineering," and "Refrigeration, Cryogenic Engineering and Life Support Systems."

AKKUYU NUCLEAR A.S. General Director Sergei Butckikh, commenting on the matter, stated: "The training of qualified engineering personnel is a key condition for the development of nuclear energy in Turkey. We continue to prepare a new generation of specialists who will be responsible for operating the nuclear power plant. Russian universities provide program participants with fundamental knowledge. To reinforce this knowledge, internship opportunities are provided at operating nuclear plants. AKKUYU NUCLEAR A.S. provides full support to students at every stage of their education. Program graduates working at the Akkuyu NPP site make important contributions to improving the plant's operational reliability. Each new intake provides more young Turkish engineers with the opportunity to receive quality education and pursue careers in the high-technology sector."

Applicants to the program must hold a bachelor's degree in engineering, technical, physics, chemistry, energy or natural sciences fields, or be students from these disciplines graduating in 2026.
In the three-year master's degree education, participants receive intensive Russian-language instruction with a technical focus during the first year. The following two years are devoted to specialized courses in the selected field. Upon completing their education, master's degree students receive practical training at Rosatom's training centers and complete internships lasting 1 to 3 months at operating nuclear power plants in Russia. Following the education program, graduates are employed at Akkuyu NPP in accordance with the company's staffing plans.

Applications to the program will be accepted until 28 February 2026. Candidates must complete the electronic form on the "akkuyu.com" website and attach the required documents.
Remote interviews with university faculty will be conducted between 1-31 March 2026. Based on interview results, principal and alternate lists will be determined consisting of candidates recommended for admission to the program.
