SASA Announces Roadmap for USD 20 Billion Investment Project SASA Polyester has revealed the roadmap for its USD 20 billion Adana Yumurtalık Petrochemical Facilities investment project. According to SASA's statement, the company has completed procurement of a significant portion of land within the Special Industrial Zone in Yumurtalık. Groundwork for the remaining land is planned for the beginning of the second half of this year, with an urgent expropriation decision expected as the final step. The facility construction roadmap has also been clarified for the project, in which the investment amount previously set at USD 11.8 billion has been increased to USD 20 billion. According to information provided by İbrahim Erdemoğlu, Chairman of Erdemoğlu Holding, Phase 1 between 2023 and 2026 will include a 1 million ton PDH and polypropylene production facility, a 2 million ton paraxylene and aromatics production facility and port construction. Phase 2 between 2025 and 2028 will include 1 million ton PDH and polypropylene production facilities, 200,000 ton SAP, 100,000 ton 2-EH, 300,000 ton ACN, 1.6 million ton PTA and 700,000 ton MEG production facilities. Phase 3 between 2027 and 2032 will include integration with a refinery facility with 12 million ton capacity, as well as Phase 2 aromatics and paraxylene production facilities with 2 million ton capacity, MEG production with 700,000 ton capacity, polyethylene with 1 million ton capacity and PVC production facilities with 600,000 ton capacity. SASA has signed a license, technical service and guarantee agreement with Honeywell UOP for establishing a propylene production facility with an investment of USD 1.5 billion in the Yumurtalık investment area. The propylene production facility with annual capacity of 1 million tons, expected to be completed in the first half of 2026 and projected to contribute USD 1.2 billion to turnover, will also significantly reduce Turkey's imports. With 1 million ton propylene production—a product not currently manufactured in Turkey, which imports approximately 2.5 million tons annually—40 percent of domestic demand will be met from domestic sources.
