Turkey's exports hit a record in May

Turkey's exports reached a monthly record in May, increasing by 11.4% year-on-year to USD 24.1 billion. The chemical sector, which exported USD 3 billion in May, increased its exports by 24.3%. The sector became the second-largest exporting sector in May. İKMİB Chairman Adil Pelister made the following comments on the subject: "Our chemistry sector, which makes very important contributions to Turkey's economy and growth, achieved USD 3 billion in chemical substances and products exports in May. With this figure, our sector, which captured 12.6% of the country's exports, maintained its second-place position among the largest exporting sectors. Our sector's exports increased by 24.3% compared to the previous year. The January-May 2024 period saw our sector exports reach USD 13.5 billion with 10.7% growth. We are proud that Turkey's exports are increasing and that our chemistry sector is among the sectors making the greatest contribution. We heartily congratulate all our exporters who make us feel this pride. As İKMİB, we continue our work without interruption to support our sector and exporters. Turkey continues to grow with chemistry!"
Mineral fuels and products ranked first
In May, mineral fuels and products exports ranked first in chemical substances and products groups with USD 916.162 million in chemical exports. Plastics and plastic products ranked second with USD 870.350 million in exports, while inorganic chemicals exports ranked third with USD 254.388 million. Following 'inorganic chemicals', the other sectors in the top ten were: 'essential oils, cosmetics and soap', 'rubber and rubber articles', 'paints, varnishes, inks and preparations', 'pharmaceutical products', 'miscellaneous chemical substances', 'washing preparations' and 'organic chemicals'.  
Romania was the top export destination
In May, Romania was the top export destination with USD 207.2 million. The top ten export destinations in May were Romania, Spain, Netherlands, United States, Russia, Greece, Germany, Iraq, Italy and United Kingdom. Among the top 10 countries in May, Greece saw the highest increase at 233.42%.
