TİM Announces February Export Data

The Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM) released February 2022 export data. The export community continued its historic performance in February, reaching a new record. Exports in February increased by 25% compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching USD 20 billion. With this figure, the highest February export record in history was achieved. The strong interest of companies in exporting continued to be reflected in the number of exporting companies in February.

Top Countries for Exports:

In February, 1,718 companies exported for the first time, joining the export community. Turkish exporters, flying the Turkish flag in 214 countries and regions, increased their exports to 164 countries. The top 3 countries where Turkish exporters achieved the highest exports were: Germany with USD 1.8 billion, the United States with USD 1.3 billion, and the United Kingdom with USD 1.1 billion. Turkish exporters set monthly export records to 9 countries. In February, the automotive sector, which achieved USD 2.6 billion in exports, ranked first, followed by the chemical substances sector at USD 2.4 billion, and the ready-made clothing sector at over USD 1.8 billion in third place.

İsmail Gülle Made Comments

Evaluating the export figures, TİM Chairman İsmail Gülle stated: "In 2021, our economy showed the highest performance of the last 10 years with 11% growth. With this performance, we became the country showing the strongest performance among G-20, OECD and EU countries in 2021. As the export community, we are proud to close 2021, a year when many economies worldwide experienced significant difficulties, with such success. The recent performance of our exports shows that in 2022, our export community will continue steadily towards the target of USD 250 billion and will lead Turkey's growth. I sincerely congratulate every member of the export community who contributed to this historic success."

Highest Exports in Republican History

The February 2022 export figures were announced at a meeting attended by Commerce Minister Mehmet Muş and Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM) Chairman İsmail Gülle. Turkish exporters, who closed 2021 with records showing the highest performance of the last 10 years and serve as field representatives of Turkey's economy and trade diplomacy, continued from where they left off with their records in 2022. The export community achieved USD 20 billion in exports in February, a 25% increase compared to the same month of the previous year, thereby realizing the highest February exports in history. With this figure, the highest February export record in Republican history was achieved.

Turkey Became the Country with Highest Performance

TİM Chairman İsmail Gülle, beginning his opening remarks by stating that Turkey achieved 11% growth in 2021 and showed the highest economic performance of the last 10 years, said: "With this performance, we became the country showing the strongest performance among G-20, OECD and EU countries in 2021. Industrial production and exports became the locomotive of growth. Exports recorded the highest growth in terms of main items. Exports contributed 5.3 percentage points to growth, and net exports contributed 4.9 percentage points. Industry grew by 17%, investments by 6%."

Exports Will Contribute to Turkey's Growth in 2022 as Well

Noting that nearly half of growth came from exports, TİM Chairman İsmail Gülle stated: "Turkey is rising by producing and exporting. The recent performance of our exports shows that in 2022, our export community will also lead Turkey's growth. I sincerely congratulate every member of the export community who contributed to this historic success!"

Automotive and Chemical Substances Sectors Led Growth

Sharing details about the export figures, TİM Chairman İsmail Gülle provided the following information: "In the first 2 months of the year, our total exports reached USD 37.6 billion. Looking at the details of our figures, we see that as many as 24 sectors increased their exports. This month, our automotive sector, which achieved USD 2.6 billion in exports, ranked first, followed by the chemical substances sector at USD 2.4 billion, and the ready-made clothing sector at over USD 1.8 billion in third place. The most notable sectoral increases compared to the previous year were achieved in the chemical substances sector, which increased exports by USD 728 million, the steel sector with an increase of USD 595 million, and the iron and non-ferrous metals sectors with an increase of USD 412 million. Our cereals, cement, glass, ceramics and fruit and vegetable products sectors set records in February."

1,718 More Companies Joined the Export Community

TİM Chairman İsmail Gülle, noting that the strong interest of companies in exporting continued to be reflected in the number of exporting companies in 2022 and that 1,718 companies exported for the first time this month, joining the export community, stated that the new companies achieved USD 72.7 million in exports in February and that the number of companies exporting this month was 45,965.
