EİB Exports Rose 23%

EİB Shows 23% Export Growth Aegean Exporters Unions recorded TRY 1 billion 442 million in exports in February with a 23% increase. The foreign currency amount EİB brought to Turkey in February 2020 was USD 1 billion 168 million. EİB demonstrated its most successful February performance in its history. In February, exports from the Aegean Region rose 23% from USD 2 billion 11 million to USD 2 billion 468 million. EİB achieved USD 2 billion 231 million in exports during January-February 2020, while in the first two months of 2021, EİB's exports rose 26% to USD 2 billion 813 million. EİB's exports over the past 12 months advanced with a 29% jump from USD 13 billion 80 million to USD 16 billion 892 million. Of the 12 exporters unions operating under Aegean Exporters Unions, 11 increased their exports in February, while industrial sectors recorded USD 868 million in exports. Agricultural sectors showed USD 490 million in performance, while the mining sector brought USD 83.6 million in foreign currency to Turkey.

Olive and Olive Oil Exports Rise 92%

Aegean Olive and Olive Oil Exporters Union increased its February exports 92% from USD 15.6 million to USD 30 million. Following January, it also became the export growth record holder in February. Aegean Iron and Non-Ferrous Metals Exporters Union maintained its position as the highest exporting union with USD 211 million 640 thousand in exports while increasing exports by 37%.

EHKİB Reaches USD 1.5 Billion Target

Aegean Ready-made Garment and Apparel Exporters Union increased exports 13% to USD 130.5 million and ranked second. EHKİB achieved USD 1 billion 512 million in exports over the past 12 months, reaching the USD 1.5 billion export level it had long aspired to. Aegean Aquatic Products and Animal Products Exporters Union surpassed the USD 100 million threshold with USD 109 million in exports, while reaching USD 1 billion 355 million in annual exports.

Cereals, Legumes and Oilseeds Exports Approaching USD 1 Billion

Aegean Cereals, Legumes, Oilseeds and Products Exporters Union increased February exports 62% to USD 86 million, a record increase, and for the first time ranked fourth on the EİB list. EHBYİB reached the USD 740 million annual export level, signaling it will reach USD 1 billion in exports by end of 2022. Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters Union, going through uncertain times due to the war between Russia and Ukraine, its largest export markets, brought USD 85.8 million in foreign currency to Turkey with a 9% increase, while Aegean Mining Exporters Union showed USD 83.6 million in export performance with a 22% increase. Aegean Furniture, Paper and Forest Products Exporters Union, consistently increasing exports, maintained the tradition in February and increased exports 23% from USD 52 million to USD 64 million. Aegean Dried Fruit and Products Exporters Union recorded USD 61 million in exports, while Aegean Textiles and Raw Materials Exporters Union increased February export figures from USD 43 million to USD 58 million. ETHİB's annual exports rose to USD 407 million. Aegean Leather and Leather Products Exporters Union succeeded in bringing USD 19.4 million in foreign currency to Turkey. Among sectors without a dedicated union under Aegean Exporters Unions, the chemical industry maintained its leading position with USD 160 million in exports, while the automotive industry sector recorded USD 72 million and the air conditioning sector USD 63 million in exports.

Eskinazi: "We Will Reach Our Targets With Financing Support"

Aegean Exporters Unions Coordinator Chairman Jak Eskinazi, recalling Turkey's 2022 export target of USD 250 billion and Aegean Exporters Unions' target of USD 18 billion, emphasized that exporters' financing needs must be met continuously to reach this goal. Eskinazi noted that import figures have risen far more than export figures over the past two months and stated: "Increases in raw material prices and logistics costs are causing our exporters to hesitate in accepting new orders. Turkish exporters should be supported to produce and export. Otherwise, the ratio of exports to imports will fall behind targets. This will result in employment figures staying below desired levels."

İzmir Generates 55% of Aegean Region's Exports

In February, Aegean Region exports rose 23% from USD 2 billion 11 million to USD 2 billion 468 million. İzmir single-handedly generated 55% of Aegean Region exports with USD 1 billion 373 million in exports. The two free zones in İzmir increased İzmir's exports by USD 248 million. The chemical industry led exports in İzmir with USD 189 million, while iron and non-ferrous metals sector ranked second with USD 145 million. Ready-made garment and apparel sector placed third with USD 133 million in foreign currency revenue. Cereals, legumes and oilseeds sector contributed USD 76 million to İzmir's exports, while the automotive industry sector contributed USD 71 million. Manisa, which lost second place to Denizli in January, reclaimed its second-place position in February with USD 410.5 million in exports. The largest contributors to Manisa's exports were the electrical-electronics sector with USD 168 million in performance, the air conditioning sector with USD 66 million in sales and the automotive industry with USD 56 million in foreign currency revenue. In Denizli's February exports of USD 379 million, the ready-made garment and apparel sector led with USD 114 million, while the iron and non-ferrous metals sector showed USD 99 million in export performance. The electrical-electronics sector recorded USD 64 million in exports. Aydın recorded USD 73.5 million in exports in February, with the top three sectors being the mining sector at USD 15 million, the automotive sector at USD 14 million and the dried fruit sector at USD 11 million. Balıkesir exported USD 68.8 million, with the aquatic products and animal products sector maintaining its leading position with USD 13.5 million in foreign currency revenue. The automotive sector recorded USD 8 million and the electrical-electronics sector USD 7 million in exports. Muğla showed USD 63.8 million in export success in February, with the aquatic products and animal products sector taking the lion's share with USD 41 million in exports. The mining sector recorded USD 10 million and the fresh fruit and vegetable sector USD 4 million in export performance.

Kütahya Export Growth Record Holder

Kütahya, the ceramics and porcelain center, increased the foreign currency it brought to Turkey in February by 73% from USD 24.4 million to USD 43 million and became the export growth record holder among Aegean Region provinces. The ceramics sector led Kütahya's exports with USD 23 million in performance. The iron and non-ferrous metals sector recorded USD 10 million and the electrical-electronics sector USD 3.3 million in exports. Uşak, where the textile sector led with USD 7.8 million in exports, showed USD 28.6 million in export performance in February. The other two sectors contributing most to this export were carpets with USD 5.6 million and aquatic products and animal products sectors with USD 5.4 million. Afyonkarahisar was the only Aegean Region province where exports did not increase in February. Afyonkarahisar achieved USD 27 million in exports, repeating its February 2020 performance. The three sectors contributing most to these exports were the mining sector with USD 17.6 million, the iron and steel sector with USD 1.6 million and the chemical sector with USD 1.3 million.
