Şişecam's Sales Reached TRY 17 Billion Şişecam's consolidated net sales in the January-March period of 2022 reached TRY 17 billion. Operating in 14 countries and serving over 150 countries, Şişecam's January-March sales climbed to the TRY 17 billion level. International sales accounted for 66% of the company's total sales in this period. Şişecam's total investments in the first quarter of the year reached TRY 1.2 billion, while exports reached USD 240 million.

Şişecam Successfully Completed the First Quarter of the Year

Şişecam produced 1.4 million tons of glass in the first quarter and during this period produced 1.2 million tons of soda ash and approximately 1 million tons of industrial raw materials. Şişecam General Manager Görkem Elverici made remarks regarding Şişecam's January-March 2022 results. Görkem Elverici stated: "In the first quarter of 2022, the world went through a period dominated by economic and geopolitical risks, high inflation and supply chain-related problems felt deeply on a global scale, fraught with uncertainties. Şişecam, a strong global player in the glass and chemicals sectors, continued its growth journey uninterrupted during this challenging period through advanced risk management capabilities, sound investment decisions and transformation projects implemented with collective wisdom. Operating its activities with the goal of becoming one of the world's top three players in its core business areas, Şişecam succeeded in generating TRY 17 billion in revenue in the first three months of 2022. In the coming period, we will continue to manage our operations using our proactive practices, strong capabilities and reflexes, make necessary updates to our business processes and plans, and continue to create value for all our stakeholders," he said.
Continued Uninterrupted Activities in Line with Sustainability Objectives
Referring to important investments and notable projects implemented by Şişecam in the first quarter of 2022, Elverici continued: "Şişecam, as in every period, continued its growth initiatives in the first quarter of 2022 with a holistic development approach, pursuing uninterrupted activities in supply, growth and sustainability objectives for our planet. Şişecam, which daily reaffirms its position as a global, technological and forward-looking leading world company through operations that respect nature and society, practices that create sustainable value for all stakeholders, investments and value-added products, made an important acquisition in Italy at the beginning of 2022. In order to manage risks that could arise from global disruptions in supply chains and to ensure sustainability in its investments, Şişecam added Italian refractory manufacturer Refel, one of the world's leading producers, to its portfolio. With this refractory investment, which plays a critical role in new furnace investments in the glass field and in carrying out cold repair processes as planned, Şişecam will further strengthen its strategic position in the European and world glass markets and will become an important player in the developing and growing refractory sector. Our steps toward sustainability in raw material procurement and production and our strategic investments will continue with the same approach in the coming period," he continued. "Continuing Investments Without Slowing Down with the Goal of Becoming One of the World's Top Three Players" Elverici said: "Şişecam continues its investments without slowing down with the goal of contributing to the growth of its ecosystem, eliminating potential risks in its areas of operation and becoming one of the world's top three players. With this approach, we also held the groundbreaking ceremony for our Hungarian facility, which we announced as our first investment in glass packaging in Europe in 2021, in the first quarter of this year. This investment, which is planned to have the first furnace commissioned in 2023, the second furnace activated in the following year, and reach full capacity in 2025, will enable Şişecam to have an additional production capacity of 330 thousand tons annually. The Hungarian glass packaging investment will allow Şişecam to expand its glass packaging production footprint, position itself closer to the European market in particular in line with current supply chain requirements, and facilitate easier connection of quality glass packaging products to the European market," he said.
