Şişecam's Consolidated Net Sales Reach TRY 5.7 Billion
Şişecam's consolidated net sales for the January-March 2021 period reached TRY 5.7 billion, while international sales—comprising exports from Turkey and foreign production sales—accounted for 60% of consolidated sales. In the first quarter, Şişecam produced 1.25 million tonnes of glass, 550 thousand tonnes of soda, and 1.2 million tonnes of industrial raw materials. Through flexible applications and established governance experience, Şişecam achieved strong first-quarter financial performance, surpassing the same period of the previous year, which reflected the pre-pandemic situation.
Şişecam Board Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kırman: "In the first quarter of the year, our consolidated net sales reached TRY 5.7 billion, and through our products, investments and employment creation we continued to contribute to the country's economy. Şişecam, which achieved strong targets in the first quarter with its corporate governance capability, has once again demonstrated its effective crisis management ability by delivering successful financial performance that surpasses the same period of the previous year, which was pre-pandemic.
In the coming period where uncertainty remains regarding the scope of the global pandemic's impact, we will continue to manage our operations using strong competencies and reflexes, make necessary updates to our business processes and plans, and continue creating value for all our stakeholders."
Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kırman stated: "In 2020, when we celebrated Şişecam's 85th anniversary and consolidated all our activities under a single roof, we successfully completed the merger process that we regarded as a critical milestone in line with our long-term strategies and competitive targets in global markets. Immediately thereafter, we began at great pace to implement transformation projects aimed at creating a more integrated, digital, optimized and operationally excellent organizational structure and building the Şişecam of the future.During the remainder of the year we will continue our important transformation projects centered on a holistic corporate governance approach utilizing competent human resources and smart technology. As we continue our digital transformation journey with big data usage, we will ensure optimization through effective resource and asset management that will create high synergy across the entire value chain. We will continue to increase the economic value and global competitive strength that Şişecam creates." he said.
Kırman continued his statement: "Despite the uncertainty created by the global pandemic and extraordinary conditions, we continued our investments without interruption within our priority of meeting our country's glass demand and creating value for our economy. Following the Polatlı facility, which we transformed into Europe's largest flat glass hub with our eighth furnace commissioned in October 2020, we also fired up and commissioned our sixth furnace at our Yenişehir flat glass facility after completing its cold repair. With the additional 240 thousand tonnes annual capacity provided by this furnace, we have secured supply capacity to meet the intense demands of the construction, furniture, white goods and automotive sectors. Following the commissioning of our fifth furnace, which will have its cold repair completed at our Yenişehir facility in the last quarter of the year and also has 240 thousand tonnes capacity, Şişecam will continue to create value for Turkey uninterruptedly, actively utilizing the flat glass production capacity of 2 million tonnes installed in Turkey.Advertisement
