Chemical Sector Achieves $2.8 Billion in Exports
According to data from Turkey's Export Council (TİM), Turkey's exports in November reached USD 23 billion, up 5.2 percent year-on-year. The chemical sector, with USD 2.8 billion in exports, became the second-largest exporting sector in November and accounted for 12.5 percent of the country's total exports.
Evaluating November export figures for the chemical sector, İKMİB Board Chairman Adil Pelister said: "In November, our chemical sector achieved USD 2.8 billion in exports with 11.5 percent growth, accounting for 12.5 percent of our country's total exports. Our sector's January-November exports reached USD 28 billion. This year has been challenging both for our country and for the global economy.
Despite this, we expect our chemical sector, which showed growth performance in the final quarter compared to last year, to exceed USD 30 billion in year-end exports. Following last year's export record of USD 33.6 billion, achieving figures above USD 30 billion this year despite all difficult conditions is quite significant.
As İKMİB, we will continue to contribute to our sector's export growth and entry into new markets through trade fair national participation initiatives, trade and purchasing delegations, and Ur-Ge projects."
"Mineral fuels and products" led exports
In November, exports of mineral fuels and products ranked first in chemical substances and products categories with USD 953.739 million. Plastics and plastic products ranked second with USD 784.384 million in exports, while inorganic chemicals exports ranked third with USD 209.293 million. Other sectors in the top ten following inorganic chemicals were: essential oils, cosmetics and soap; rubber and rubber articles; pharmaceutical products; paints, varnish, inks and related products; miscellaneous chemical substances; organic chemicals; and washing preparations.Netherlands led export destinations
The top ten export destinations in November were the Netherlands, Spain, Italy, Russia, Romania, Iraq, Germany, France, Morocco and the United States. Among the top 10 countries in November, Morocco saw the highest growth at 229.53 percent. For the January-November period of 2023, the top ten countries for chemical exports were the Netherlands, Russia, Italy, Romania, Spain, Germany, the United States, Iraq, the United Kingdom and Belgium.Advertisement
