Western Mediterranean Exports Continue to Rise

Western Mediterranean exports continue to rise as products from the region meet buyers across the globe. In October, exports from Antalya, Burdur and Isparta provinces increased by 15.50% compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching USD 221,681,703. Exports recorded between 1 January and 31 October 2023 totalled USD 2,180,312,152. Fresh fruit and vegetable sector achieved the highest exports in both the 10-month period and in October, while China was the leading export destination. In the mining sector, significant growth was recorded in October with natural stone-dominated exports. Natural stone products suitable for cutting and construction increased exports from USD 19.5 million in October 2022 to USD 32 million, a rise of 63.72%. The fresh fruit and vegetable sector achieved the highest exports from Western Mediterranean in October with a 27.6% increase and USD 56.8 million. The mining and metals sector, dominated by natural stone and holding an important place in regional exports, achieved USD 48.8 million in exports with a 25.7% increase. The wood and forest products sector recorded the highest increase in October exports. In October, it achieved USD 32.3 million in exports with a 56.7% increase. The chemical sector, which holds an important place in regional exports, achieved USD 24.2 million in exports during this period with a 1.75% increase. The air conditioning sector, ranked fifth on the list, recorded USD 7.5 million in exports with a 9.18% decline compared to October of the previous year. China was the leading export destination in October. Exports to China, which again saw record increases this month as in the previous month, reached USD 24.6 million with a 64.25% increase. Russia, ranked second, received USD 16.7 million in exports with a 1.03% decline, while Germany, ranked third, received USD 14.6 million with a 6.07% increase. Exports to the United States nearly doubled, reaching USD 14 million with a 47.76% increase. Exports to the Netherlands, ranked fifth, reached USD 9.2 million with a 35.22% increase. Looking at exports between 1 January and 31 October, the fresh fruit and vegetable sector ranked first with a 27.66% increase and USD 681.1 million in exports. The mining and metals sector, ranked second, achieved USD 404.6 million in exports despite an 8.82% decline. The wood and forest products sector achieved USD 270.5 million in exports with a 9.6% increase. The chemical sector, ranked fourth on the list, maintained its exports compared to the same period of the previous year and achieved USD 217 million in exports with a 0.43% increase, while the ferrous and non-ferrous metals sector, ranked fifth, recorded USD 81.4 million in exports despite a 23.36% decline.
