EİB Achieves Major Success

Major Success for EİB Ege İhracatçı Birlikleri increased its June exports by 10% to USD 1 billion 702 million. Exporters from the Aegean region raised their exports by 21% in the first half of 2022 to USD 9 billion 276 million, generating USD 17 billion 934 million for Turkey over the past year with a 21% increase. Ege İhracatçı Birlikleri Coordinator Chairman Jak Eskinazi noted that EİB reached 207 different export markets in the first half of 2022 and succeeded in increasing its exports to 135 countries and regions. "Our exports to the European Union, our traditional trade partner and the region placing green transition at the center of the global agenda, reached USD 4 billion 349 million in the first half of 2022 with a 22% increase. In the first half of 2022, our exports to 23 EU countries increased, while the EU's share in EİB's total exports stood at 46%, and Europe's share in our exports at 54%. Turkey ranks first as an alternative supply country. However, to seize this opportunity and make it permanent requires our investments in sustainability, green energy, circular production and digitalization. For example, European countries are increasing their hydrogen investments and capacities, which will play an important role in future energy systems, aiming to produce 10 million tons of green hydrogen. Global demand for hydrogen is expected to exceed 210 million tons by 2030."

G7 and BRICS emphasis

Noting that G7 countries represent 9.8% of the global population and 43.4% of the global economy, Jak Eskinazi stated that BRICS countries represent approximately 40% of the global population and 25% of global gross domestic product. "The most concrete outcome of the G7 summit this year was the 'Global Infrastructure and Investment Partnership Plan', an initiative serving as an alternative to the 'Belt and Road' Project, characterized as 'China's Silk Road'. At the BRICS Summit held nearly simultaneously with the G7, a 'Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund' was established. The economic alliances that will shape humanity's future are advancing under the sustainable development agenda in the areas of climate change, health, gender equality, green energy and digitalization. As EİB, we increased our exports to G7 countries by 19% in the first six months of 2022 to USD 3 billion 437 million, and to BRICS countries by 10% to USD 503 million. In line with these developments transforming the infrastructure of the world economy, we need to establish new strategies."  

Turkish Republics became the region where we achieved the highest export growth

Explaining that EİB experienced significant increases in exports by country groups in the first six months of 2022, Eskinazi continued as follows: "Turkish Republics, with a 55% increase to USD 159 million, became the region where we achieved the highest export growth. We sold products to American countries worth USD 1 billion 84 million with a 22% increase, and to Middle Eastern countries USD 1 billion 30 million with a 30% increase. Our exports to African countries totaled USD 787 million with a 37% increase. We exported USD 674 million to other European countries with a 17% advance, USD 419 million to former Eastern Bloc countries, and USD 156 million to Free Zones with a 4% increase."  

Germany, USA, United Kingdom in the top three

Explaining that Germany maintained its first position with a 17% increase to USD 997 million in the first half of 2022, Eskinazi continued as follows: "In the first half, the USA ranked second in our exports with a 28% increase to USD 758 million, while the United Kingdom, with an 11% increase to USD 542 million, ranks among our top three trade partners where we achieved the most exports. We increased our exports to Italy by 19% to USD 562 million, to Spain by 19% to USD 491 million, to the Netherlands by 25% to USD 390 million, to France by 9% to USD 372 million, to Belgium by 36% to USD 265 million, to Israel by 22% to USD 242 million, and to Romania by 69% to USD 222 million."  

USD 613 million in exports to Asia and Oceania countries

Jak Eskinazi noted that EİB achieved USD 613 million in exports to Asia and Oceania countries with a 4% increase in the first half of 2022. "When examining our exports to Far East countries as EİB, we achieved USD 120 million in exports to China in the January-June period, USD 63 million to Japan with a 23% increase, USD 26 million to South Korea, USD 14 million to Hong Kong, and USD 6 million to Taiwan. In South Asia, we increased our exports to India by 176% to USD 122 million. We exported USD 44 million to Pakistan, USD 20 million to Bangladesh with a 50% increase, increased exports to Sri Lanka by 30%, and to Afghanistan by 11%. In the Asia-Pacific region, our exports increased by 45% to Malaysia, 7% to Singapore, and 28% to Thailand."
