"We Aim to Be a Carbon-Neutral Company by 2030"
Dr. M. Oğuzcan Bülbül, Director of Public Relations and Corporate Communications at Abdi İbrahim, evaluated the company's success in the Carbon Disclosure Project. Bülbül stated: "For 109 years as Abdi İbrahim, we have worked every day to contribute to millions of people living better, healthier and happier lives. We focus on integrating sustainability into every link of our value chain; we shape all our actions from an ESG (Environmental, social, governance) perspective. In this way, we have the opportunity to measure our company's performance not only through positive financial results, but also by taking into account the positive impacts we create for society and the environment. We are the first and only Turkish pharmaceutical company that has integrated environmental, social and governance principles into our decision-making processes. Sustainability efforts are closely monitored within our 5-year strategic roadmap Vision 2025. Within the Vision 2025 framework and in light of the Paris Agreement principles, we aim to become a carbon-neutral company by 2030. We are implementing many sub-projects in line with this goal. Increasing sustainability focus and scaling up policies fall under global transformation programmes, which are one of Abdi İbrahim's strategic initiatives. In our second reporting under the CDP, we are very proud to have achieved a B rating in the Climate Change Programme. We are particularly pleased that we have obtained a rating equal to our sector's European average in the field of climate change." he said."We Have Reduced Our Carbon Footprint by 53 Percent"
Bülbül also touched on the work being done to neutralize the company's carbon footprint. Bülbül said: "Our company is working on circular economy projects to reduce carbon footprint, as well as various projects to use less material and especially less plastic, and we are conducting university-industry collaborations. On the other hand, last year we achieved a first in our sector and began using 100 percent renewable energy by meeting our electricity needs from solar and wind power plants at our Istanbul Esenyurt Production Complex and General Management headquarters. Thus, we reduced our carbon footprint from electricity consumption to zero. When we take into account all our activities, we have achieved a 53 percent reduction in our carbon footprint. Within the scope of our awareness on water efficiency, we became the first Turkish pharmaceutical company to be among the signatories of the CEO Water Mandate, an initiative of the United Nations Global Compact." he said.Advertisement
