Clariant Supplies New AmoMax® 10 Plus Catalyst for Groundbreaking Green Ammonia Project in Oman

Clariant, a focused, sustainable and innovative specialty chemicals company, is further underlining its commitment to decarbonizing the chemical industry and is supporting a prestigious USD 3.5 billion project for green ammonia and green hydrogen production in Duqm, Oman. Clariant will supply the next-generation AmoMax 10 Plus ammonia synthesis catalyst to KBR for the soon-to-be-built ACME green ammonia facility of Oman Company for the Development of the Special Economic Zone in Duqm. Upon completion, this facility will be a fully integrated, carbon-free plant using solar and wind energy to produce 300 tons of ammonia per day. AmoMax 10 Plus, wustite-based, is particularly well suited to the requirements of green ammonia production. Based on Clariant's proven ammonia synthesis catalyst AmoMax 10 in the industry, this new catalyst is designed with an optimized promoter set and significantly increases efficiency and stability while reducing startup times. The superior efficiency of AmoMax 10 Plus enables conversion per pass at higher levels and operation at lower cycle pressures. As a result, it can be used to increase ammonia production and/or reduce energy consumption. Additionally, the catalyst's improved stability and excellent resistance to water and oxygen increase its robustness and lifespan. These combined properties enable AmoMax 10 Plus to deliver stable and reliable performance despite fluctuating feed conditions caused by variable renewable energy sources.
