Solvay and Fokker Join Forces to Develop Aircraft Composites
Solvay and GKN Aerospace's Fokker department have formed a partnership to increase the use of thermoplastic composite materials in aircraft.
Under this arrangement, Solvay will be a preferred supplier of lightweight composite materials to Fokker. Thermoplastic composites can reduce the weight of aircraft components by up to 25% compared to conventional metallic solutions.
Carmelo Lo Faro, head of Solvay's global composite materials business unit, said: "Solvay's partnership with GKN Aerospace's Fokker department is an important step toward our goal of becoming a leading supplier of thermoplastic composite materials in the aerospace, oil and gas, and automotive industries." He added: "Fokker's design and manufacturing expertise will help us gain a deeper understanding of market needs and challenges for thermoplastic composites and parts, and will enable us to develop technologies for producing these products."
