Saint-Gobain–Megasol Partnership
Saint-Gobain Invests in Building-Integrated Photovoltaics to Expand Sustainable Facade Solutions for Europe
Saint-Gobain and Megasol, a leading solar energy producer in Building-Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) in Europe, have announced a strategic partnership.
As part of this partnership, Saint-Gobain has acquired a minority stake in Megasol's business unit in Deitingen, Switzerland, which develops and manufactures building-integrated photovoltaics.
The partnership enables Saint-Gobain to expand its catalog of sustainable facade solutions and become one of the leading suppliers of BIPV facade solutions in Europe, one of the fastest-growing segments in facade construction.
It also enables Megasol to access Saint-Gobain's customer base.
BIPV solutions generate highly efficient energy on building roofs and vertical facades, making significant contributions to sustainable construction and decarbonization.
Building owners not only increase their energy efficiency by complying with both current and future energy regulations, but also gain the opportunity to earn additional income by feeding electricity back into the grid.
Saint-Gobain Switzerland CEO Patrick Maier stated, "Through the aesthetic design of Megasol's products and their fully customized industrial production, we are expanding the scope of our applications and driving significant growth in Saint-Gobain's overall facade solutions."
Megasol CEO Markus Gisler said, "With its sustainability strategy, tremendous expertise in glass and building coatings, and global presence, Saint-Gobain is the perfect partner to rapidly grow our company with active solar energy building materials."
The partnership will further strengthen Saint-Gobain's catalog of sustainable facade solutions, which varies from country to country. Photovoltaic facade systems provide high performance and reduced carbon impact through lower carbon and lower energy requirements for existing buildings in use.
This investment aligns with Saint-Gobain's "Grow&Impact" plan to further strengthen its leadership position in lightweight and sustainable construction.
