LANXESS Acquires Biocide Specialist INTACE
Specialty chemicals company LANXESS is expanding its position as one of the world's leading biocide and antimicrobial producers by acquiring French company INTACE SAS. The Paris-based biocides firm is a manufacturer of specialized fungicides for the packaging industry.
LANXESS and the seller signed an agreement on 14 January 2021. The parties agreed not to disclose the purchase price. LANXESS expects the transaction to be completed in the first quarter of 2021.
Nicolas Gallacier, Marketing Manager Industrial Protection and Coatings at LANXESS's Material Protection Products business unit, said: "We are actively participating in market consolidation in the consumer protection sector. With the acquisition of INTACE, we are strengthening our biocide technology platform for packaging and labels in the consumer goods industry. At the same time, we are following a trend: paper in packaging is increasingly being replaced by plastic."
Oliver Kretschik, Vice President responsible for the Biocides business unit at LANXESS's Material Protection Products division, said: "INTACE generated sales in the mid to single-digit million euro range in 2020. Its products are used particularly in paper, cardboard, soap packaging, labels and banknotes. We hope to integrate the new product portfolio quickly. INTACE's strong customer base will be able to benefit very soon from LANXESS's global footprint and regulatory expertise."
