IChemE Announces Finalists for 2022 Global Awards

More than 100 finalist projects for the 2022 Global Awards have been announced by the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE), with entries demonstrating excellence in chemical, biochemical and process engineering. Winners from 15 countries across 15 team categories and two individual award categories (Young Entrepreneur and Young Researcher) will be announced on 17 November 2022 at the Mercure Manchester Piccadilly Hotel in Manchester, United Kingdom. The award will be a coveted trophy from one of the profession's most prestigious awards, and the event is expected to be one of the largest chemistry and process engineering meetings in the United Kingdom since before the pandemic. The award ceremony will be hosted by television and radio presenter Reverend Richard Coles, who co-presents BBC Radio 4's Saturday Live programme and regularly appears as a panellist on numerous television programmes.

The award categories are as follows:

  • Business Enterprise, sponsored by Sellafield Ltd.
  • Diversity and Inclusion, sponsored by Bouygues Energies & Services
  • Energy, supported by Rolls-Royce
  • Industrial Project, sponsored by WSP
  • Innovative Product
  • Oil and Gas
  • Process Automation and Digitisation Award, sponsored by PM Group
  • Process Safety, supported by PM Group
  • Public Engagement
  • Research Project
  • Sustainability
  • Team Award, sponsored by Baker Hicks
  • Training and Development
  • Water Award
  • Young Entrepreneur, sponsored by BES
  • Young Researcher, sponsored by Johnson Matthey
Successful finalists include: BP International and Baker Hughes, United Kingdom / Descon Oxychem, Pakistan / Dow, United States / EPOC Enviro, Australia / Envytech Solutions, Sweden / Gexcon, Norway / Harbour Energy, United Kingdom / Kagera AI, Serbia / Loughborough University, United Kingdom / Metcelerate, United Kingdom / Optimal Systems Engineering, Malaysia / Reactor Technology Research Group / University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa / Saudi Aramco, Saudi Arabia / TRU-MK7, New Zealand / and University of Waterloo, Canada.  
Keith Batchelor, Chair of the volunteer judging panel for the IChemE Global Awards, said:

It will be a wonderful atmosphere as we recognise some of the highest standards and achievements in chemical engineering worldwide - our judged awards are a real accolade within the profession. It is also gratifying to see an interest in ensuring that diversity is now embedded throughout our discipline. We congratulate all of this year's finalists and thank everyone who has taken part." Winners of the IChemE Malaysia Awards (to be announced on 10 October) will be eligible to become finalists in their respective categories in the IChemE Global Awards. Each team category winner in the IChemE Global Awards will have the opportunity to be crowned overall winner and receive the Excellence in Chemical and Process Engineering Award, sponsored by Exxon Mobil.
