With BeautyForward 6, it is possible to obtain much-needed clarity on ingredient and formulation naturalness. Clariant has launched its groundbreaking digital tool to facilitate the research and selection of natural components for personal care formulations.
Powered by standardized data on Renewable Carbon/Natural Origin indices for more than 800 ingredients from Clariant and other sources, the new tool for personal care applications gives formula creators and brands the opportunity to calculate the percentage of natural content in any formulation. The tool is also designed to demonstrate the individual impact of specific ingredient selections on formulation naturalness, which provides a significant advantage for initiating future product development.

As the industry's focus on less environmentally impactful beauty development increases, Clariant is taking steps to standardize, measure and share the naturalness of personal care components, including more than 300 ingredients derived from its own portfolio.
The new tool calculates the naturalness of personal care formulation according to ISO 16128[1] methodology and offers two options to support research.
First, users can build their own new natural formulations from scratch by adding component ingredients with quantities by INCI or commercial name. Based on this, the naturalness of each ingredient is tracked by monitoring the Renewable Carbon Index (RCI) for carbon-based ingredients and the Natural Origin Index (NOI) if not carbon-based. The tool then proceeds to calculate the total formulation naturalness based on each ingredient's contribution.
Alternatively, users can opt for a more guided approach; the BeautyForward calculator is equipped with a range of exemplary and customizable skin and hair care formulas with naturalness reaching up to 99%. Users can copy and edit formulations, working through ingredient selection by adding and removing products to find the ideal match for their needs and percentage natural content targets.
Formulations can subsequently be saved to each user's personal accounts for access and reference at a later date. To support ingredient research, the tool also enables users to access more detailed ingredient information and request samples.
BeautyForward 6 is completed with 95-99% natural skin care and hair care formulation sets offering on-demand performance claims that highlight the capabilities of the tool and Clariant's ingredients.
The BeautyForward 6 tool can be accessed through ClariHub Personal Care, Clariant's free and customer-specific platform. Registration or login is required to use the tool with all its functions.
