Eco-Friendly Polyols

Environment-Friendly Polyols Perstorp is achieving significant growth in the production of environment-friendly polyols. Perstorp, a sustainability-focused solutions provider and a leading company in the polyols sector, is taking action by converting the majority of polyols produced at its largest production facility in Perstorp, Sweden into environment-friendly (Pro-Environment) products. In doing so, Perstorp will enable the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions for its polyol customers and downstream value chains. Perstorp, a sustainability-focused leading global specialty chemicals company, is continuing its sustainability journey towards finite material neutrality and alignment with the Paris Agreement by converting all base polyols produced at Perstorp facilities – Pentaerythritol (Penta), Neopentyl Glycol (Neo) and Trimethylolpropane (TMP) – to environment-friendly variants. From 2023 onwards, all fossil-based versions of base polyols produced at the Perstorp facility will be replaced with partially renewable or recycled-sourced Pro-Environment qualities (Voxtar, Evyrone & Neeture) based on a traceable mass balance concept. [caption id="attachment_140713" align="aligncenter"] Photo: Perstorp[/caption] Pro-Environment products hold ISCC PLUS certification and are identical to their fossil-based counterparts, meaning they can be used as direct drop-in replacements. The products benefit customers and the value chain by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and supporting the transition to renewable or recycled materials – in other words, supporting the effort to achieve climate neutrality. Perstorp Group Chief Executive Officer Jan Secher said: "The phasing out of fossil-based polyols produced at our site is a bold move, but as an industry we believe this is the only way to comply with the Paris Agreement and significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. As an upstream company in the chemical industry, we can and must create a positive impact across multiple value chains by offering products with a reduced carbon footprint." Perstorp introduced its first environment-friendly polyol to the market in 2010, and in 2017 Perstorp announced its long-term objective of achieving Finite Material Neutral status. Since late 2021, the company has established science-based emission reduction targets aligned with the Paris Agreement. The transition to Pro-Environment polyols will significantly reduce Perstorp's finite material consumption and will also bring lower-carbon-footprint products to market, thereby contributing to Perstorp and its customers in achieving their Scope 3 reduction targets.
