According to BASF, the construction sector will face major challenges in the coming years: a broad range of projects encompassing new buildings, renovations and interior finishes will see substantial demand for progressive and sustainable products. To combine energy efficiency, architectural appeal and residential comfort, BASF has introduced a new Elastospray LWP spray foam insulation that reportedly combines high insulation performance with a good environmental protection rating. According to the manufacturer, these systems consist of a consistent further development of BASF's proven spray foams. In addition to improved environmental compatibility, they provide conventional good insulation, particularly thanks to their closed-cell structure. The product properties make Elastospray LWP a good choice for all applications requiring fast, simple, cost-effective and sustainable construction methods. According to BASF, while suitable for nearly all areas of the building envelope, the material is particularly effective: on one hand it allows insulation without thermal bridges, while on the other hand it achieves low thermal conductivity thanks to its closed-cell structure and air tightness. Additionally, it has flawless mechanical properties such as high compressive strength and appropriate water vapour permeability. Elastospray LWP is a guarantee of comfort and indoor climate in newly constructed or renovated residential or commercial buildings.
To reduce climate change, the European Union aims to significantly reduce fluorinated gases (F-gases) with high Global Warming Potential (GWP). The relevant EU Regulation targets a two-thirds reduction in F-gas emissions across Europe by 2030.
In the industry, this means replacing hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HFCs), traditionally used as blowing agents in spray foam, with other environmentally friendly alternatives. BASF Performance Materials Marketing Director Jesper Bjerregaard made the following statement: "Climate change ranks among the most significant challenges of our time. As BASF, we continue to make every effort to develop new products that support reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and sustainable resource use. "BASF announced that with rapid development and market launch of the Elastospray LWP product range in 2017, it has entered the ranks of leading products in the sector.
