With the growing use of electric vehicles, air conditioning systems and heat pumps, electricity consumption in households is rising, while interest in residential solar power systems (SPS) is also gaining momentum. Oğuzhan Yıldız, Executive Board Member and Director of Energy Projects and Investments at Üçay Mühendislik, noted that residential solar energy systems deliver significant advantages particularly for homes with electric vehicle charging, heat pumps, air conditioning and intensive lighting usage.
Yıldız stated that investment payback periods vary depending on consumption habits, roof area, system capacity, regional solar conditions and net metering arrangements, and added that demand for hybrid inverter and battery solutions is rising due to energy continuity requirements.
Residential Solar Energy Projects Managed End-to-End
Yıldız, noting that Üçay Mühendislik manages residential solar energy projects from survey through design, official applications, installation and commissioning, offered the following assessment:
"In the initial phase of residential solar energy projects, we analyze roof orientation, angle, shading conditions, structural system suitability and electricity consumption data. Following these analyses, we design a system tailored to the user's needs and budget. Attention to Official Procedures Before Installation
Yıldız emphasized that regulatory compliance is critical for residential solar energy investments, and stressed that installations completed before official procedures are finished can create significant risks for investors.
Yıldız stated: "Generation facilities installed without completing grid connection letters, connection agreements and acceptance procedures can face serious penalties under regulations. Therefore, investors must verify that the firms they work with have completed project approvals, connection agreements and acceptance procedures in full."
Residential Solar Energy Use Expanding in Europe Through Incentives
Oğuzhan Yıldız noted that residential solar energy systems in Europe have reached a broad user base thanks to various support mechanisms, and expressed that significant opportunities exist for Turkey as well.
Yıldız pointed out that direct incentives, low-interest financing models, tax advantages and simplified application procedures support residential solar energy investments in Europe, stating: "In the Netherlands, approximately one-third of households have solar panels on their roofs, while Germany holds Europe's largest residential solar energy market position in terms of total installed capacity and system numbers."

"Continuity of Incentives Decisive for Market Growth"
Yıldız emphasized that for residential solar energy investments, the existence of incentives alone is insufficient—sustainable and predictable support mechanisms are equally important, and noted that European examples offer crucial lessons on this matter.
Yıldız described the 2022 increase of Turkey's residential solar energy capacity limit from 10 kW to 25 kW as a positive development, and stated that direct support, low-interest financing options, tax advantages and streamlined procedures would allow residential solar energy investments to reach broader audiences.
According to Üçay Mühendislik, residential solar energy systems in high-consumption homes will become key tools for managing energy costs in the coming period and for achieving sustainable and independent energy use.
