"For All the Time, for All the Sad Stones"5 September – 24 November 2019

Nicola Lorini's"For All the Time, for All the Sad Stones" video installation will be presented to art enthusiasts at Pera Müzesi. Inspired by the Anatolian Weights and Measures Collection, the artist offers a different perspective on current issues such as the changing definition of the kilogram and the weight of the internet. The work can be visited between 5 September – 24 November 2019. Inspired by the museum's Anatolian Weights and Measures Collection, artist Nicola Lorini's "For All the Time, for All the Sad Stones video installation draws inspiration from the phrase "for all people, for all times," which philosopher Marquis de Condorcet used in reference to the metric system. Nicola Lorini, who provides an artistic interpretation of recent significant developments in the world of science and technology, such as the calculation of the internet's theoretical mass and the change in the definition of the kilogram, is known for works informed by archaeological and cultural symbols. The kilogram, the metric unit of mass, was modeled in 1889 on the weight of an object made of platinum-iridium alloy, but this object's weight decreased by 50 micrograms over the past 129 years. Since the November 2018 meeting of the International Bureau of Weights and Measures to discuss the future of the metric system, the kilogram has been defined in terms of the Planck constant, which does not change the value of the measurement.

A Non-Linear Perspective on What Time Produces

In the installation that focuses on video and sound, Nicola Lorini questions prevailing models of thought and aims to take a closer look at the understanding of time and history. Starting from the observation that everyday objects and materials, which have become standards with the rise of the digital, are now defined through abstract concepts, the artist invites visitors to Pera Müzesi on a non-linear journey through the Anatolian Weights and Measures Collection. The work, which focuses on the tension between material production and the interpretation of information flow, consists of sculptures made from different materials such as sand, silicon and bone. The video installation titled For All the Time, for All the Sad Stones, located in the exhibition hall of the Anatolian Weights and Measures Collection on the first floor of Pera Müzesi, will meet viewers on 5 September and can be visited until 24 November. As part of the exhibition, a talk on the work will also take place on 7 September.
