Relationships are not a competition, but a valuable process where women and men act as a "we". Selin Karabulut, specialist psychologist at Anadolu Health Center, stating the importance of managing this process in the healthiest way, said: "For couples to maintain a healthy relationship, they should respect each other's differences, not compete, and reach agreement on their shared future". Specialist Psychologist Selin Karabulut shared 6 recommendations for a healthy relationship. Selin Karabulut, specialist psychologist at Anadolu Health Center, described a healthy relationship as one where both parties are happy and at peace, where needs such as loving, being loved, being supported, receiving appreciation, and social and sexual needs are met, and where they can be a "we" without losing their own identity. "A relationship first requires two healthy individuals; then love, respect and tolerance follow naturally. Even if there are disagreements, since such a relationship is built on foundations of love and respect, both parties develop better skills to cope with existing problems," Karabulut said. Karabulut listed healthy relationship recommendations as follows: 1- Show respect for your differences. 2- Don't compete. 3- Consider expectations. 4- Reach agreement on your shared future. 5- Don't overlook sexual happiness. 6- Create opportunities.

3 Major Mistakes in Relationships

  • Not Communicating

One of the most frequently observed mistakes among couples is that when any problem arises, neither party discusses it. Instead of communicating, behavior aimed at hinting or making the other party understand is often seen. Yet the solution is simple; establish communication...
  • Falling Into Complacency

Another mistake is thinking that everything is finished after marriage and falling into complacency. The general perception that marriage brings the relationship to its peak causes couples to fall into routine from marriage onward. Thus couples begin to experience a monotonous relationship.
  • Failing to Balance Between Roles

When couples have a child, sometimes they continue in their lives only as mother and father. What this means is that they can forget that they are woman and man. Of course, when there is a child we will acquire new identities, but the ideal is to maintain the relationship by making balanced transitions between the roles these identities bring.
