Vitamin C Requirements During Seasonal Changes
Changing weather conditions, colds and viral infections come along with them. Experts recommend consuming orange juice with high vitamin C content during these periods to protect against illness.
With seasonal transitions, a significant increase in upper respiratory tract diseases is observed in people whose immune systems are weakened. In protection against flu, colds and infections, and during the recovery phase, immune system strengthening fruit juices with high vitamin content become important to consume.
Experts who note that vitamin C in particular has a significant effect on the immune system emphasize that orange juice should be consumed.
Prof. Dr. Neriman İnanç, Head of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at Nuh Naci Yazgan University Faculty of Health Sciences, notes that viral diseases in particular increase as vitamin C, which cannot be synthesized in the body and enters the body through nutrients obtained externally, decreases.
İnanç emphasizes that orange juice, which contains potassium, folate, vitamins B1, B2, B6 and various minerals, should be consumed to alleviate the reduced energy and constant fatigue that accompany colds, and states that regularly consumed orange juice will help protect a person from illness.
İnanç says that an adult needs approximately 60 mg of vitamin C daily, and adds that a glass of orange juice is sufficient to meet the daily vitamin C requirement.
