Chocolate, a staple for many people due to its taste, aroma and varieties that appeal to different palates, stands out not only for its flavor but also for its health benefits.
Known for its nutritious and antioxidant properties, chocolate regulates blood flow, reduces the risk of heart disease, and protects skin from the sun. On the occasion of 7 July World Chocolate Day, Dr. Gönül Ateşsaçan explained the benefits of chocolate, "Our Common Ground."
Chocolate, consumed with pleasure by everyone from young to old, contributes to a healthy lifestyle through fiber content as well as minerals such as magnesium, potassium, copper, phosphorus and zinc.
Dr. Gönül Ateşsaçan emphasizes that chocolate contains far more antioxidants than many other foods and supports the secretion of serotonin hormone, also known as the happiness hormone.
Providing information about the benefits of chocolate, Dr. Ateşsaçan points out the necessity of consuming bitter chocolate produced from quality cocoa beans with a low sugar content.
Good for Depression
Chocolate has many positive effects on health. Consuming 25 grams of chocolate daily, that is, a few pieces, lowers cholesterol, helps with depression, reduces memory problems, balances blood pressure and moisturizes skin. Since cocoa beans have very high antioxidant properties, chocolate, "Our Common Ground," contains far more antioxidants than many other foods. According to scientific research, cocoa and bitter chocolate send signals to relax arteries, thus both regulating blood flow and reducing blood pressure. Bitter chocolate, which increases blood flow, improves brain function and increases concentration. Beyond all this, bitter chocolate reduces insulin resistance, a common risk factor for many diseases such as heart disease and diabetes.
