European Cancer Summit Held at İstinye University

İSÜ School of Health Sciences Dean Prof. Dr. Engin Ulukaya: "The annual scientific meeting of the Pathobiology Group of EORTC, Europe's largest cancer research community, was held at our university and in our country this year." We are deeply honored by this. Another source of joy is that 5 scientists from our country, 3 of whom are from our university, presented their new findings. Additionally, our Faculty Member Dr. Didem Karakaş received an award for her presentation on a study she is planning to develop for more successful treatment of pancreatic cancer, which is also a TUBITAK project." İstinye University, which stands out with its vision of becoming a research university, technology investments, particularly the health R&D centers it has established, and international collaborations, has achieved another international relations success. The "Pathobiology Group" of EORTC (European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer), Europe's largest cancer research community, held its 14th scientific meeting this year at İstinye University.

İSÜ Faculty Member Dr. Didem Karakaş Honored with Award

Making a statement regarding the three-day scientific meeting, the only scientist from our country who is a member of the EORTC community, İSUMKAM (İstinye University Molecular Cancer Research Center) Director and School of Health Sciences Dean Prof. Dr Engin Ulukaya, emphasized that EORTC is Europe's largest cancer research organization, stating: "We hosted EORTC's annual meeting. This is a significant achievement. The reason is that this pathobiology group is currently the creator of a test (uPA, PAI-1 ELISA test) that is beginning to be used worldwide for breast cancer. Similarly, it is conducting very important ongoing work on many tests that we will soon see being used in clinics. The community selects a European city and university each year for its annual scientific meeting and addresses the latest developments in cancer research. This year, our Faculty Member Dr. Didem Karakaş also received an award for her presentation on a study she is planning to develop for more successful treatment of pancreatic cancer, which is also a TUBITAK project. This award means that her project is also accepted by relevant scientists in Europe."

Noting that the meeting particularly discussed new biomarkers that the group is working on in cancer diagnosis and life expectancy estimation, he concluded his remarks as follows: "Additionally, recent developments in topics closely related to the future of oncology, such as cancer bioinformatics and circulating tumor cells, were shared. We were especially pleased that 5 researchers from our country, 3 of whom are from our university, presented their new findings."
