The sector's two-month export total exceeded USD 4.5 billion.
Adil Pelister, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Istanbul Chemical Substances and Products Exporters Association (İKMİB), commenting on the chemical sector's February export figures, stated: "In February, with USD 2.3 billion in exports, we maintained our position as Turkey's second-largest exporting sector. Our sector's exports for the first two months exceeded USD 4.5 billion. With its broad structure encompassing 16 subsectors and thousands of products, the chemical sector serves as a cornerstone of our industry's production chain, supplying raw materials, intermediate products or finished goods to 27 subsectors. The role played by the chemical sector in supporting other sectors with intermediate goods and raw materials was significant in Turkey's 3.6 percent growth achieved in 2025. On the other hand, geopolitical risks, conflicts and uncertainties in our region are factors that could affect energy prices, logistics costs and supply chains. We are closely monitoring developments and hope for the swift conclusion of conflicts. Despite all difficulties, we will continue working with all our efforts to ensure that our country and our sector can sustain exports in a sustainable manner," he said.
In February, "plastics and plastic products" recorded the highest exports
In February, among chemical substances and products categories, plastics and plastic products ranked first in chemical exports with USD 770,189,000. In second place was mineral fuels and mineral products with USD 418,524,000 in exports, while inorganic chemicals exports ranked third with USD 208,522,000. Following 'inorganic chemicals', the other sectors ranking in the top ten were: 'essential oils, cosmetics and soap', 'pharmaceutical products', 'rubber and rubber articles', 'paints, varnishes, ink and preparations', 'miscellaneous chemical substances', 'washing preparations' and 'organic chemicals'.
Germany was the leading export destination in February
In February, Germany was the top export destination with USD 117 million. The top ten export destinations in February were Germany, Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Morocco, Romania, Russia, United States, Iraq and Georgia. Among the top 20 countries in February, Morocco recorded the highest growth at 243.54 percent.
