Scott Bader's new facility in North Carolina becomes operational
Scott Bader has begun production of innovative structural adhesives and gel coats at its new GBP 12.5 million manufacturing facility in North Carolina.
The facility, situated on 15 acres, represents Scott Bader's commitment to serving North American market needs alongside its expansion and investments in its Canadian facility. This development is expected to particularly benefit customers in the marine, renewable energy, e-mobility and land transportation markets who seek the strength, durability, flexibility and lightweight properties offered by structural adhesives and gel coats.
Kevin Matthews, CEO of Scott Bader, said: "With the facility now fully operational, we can now produce our structural adhesive and gel coat range in the US. This enables us to significantly increase our global and local capacity."
Matthews added: "We will now be able to achieve shorter delivery times for our North American customers, which is good news, especially considering the global supply chain challenges we have witnessed worldwide."
Company continues growth in North America
Scott Bader has been expanding its North American operations since 2022. Following the acquisition of a premium industrial unit at Southpoint Business Park in North Carolina, Scott Bader ATC transferred an additional GBP 1.5 million to Canada. This enabled the facility to begin production of Crestabond structural adhesives for North American customers for the first time, while the transformation of the new Mocksville facility continued. The Crestabond series stands out for enabling primer-free applications, making it suitable for nearly every assembly method with minimal preparation. Ideal for bonding composites, metals and thermoplastics, this product has been designed to meet the structural and environmental requirements of the world's most demanding manufacturers. The company is also advancing the lightweighting process for composite and adhesive materials through broader supply chain collaboration to enable customers to promote energy efficiency and lower-carbon transportation. A recent collaboration resulted in the development of a specialized product for bonding battery trays in electric vehicles (EV). In addition to production starting in North Carolina, the company announced plans to invest GBP 30 million in its main manufacturing facility in the UK over the next five years and constructed a new laboratory facility worth GBP 2 million to open in France in the first quarter of 2024.
