Henkel Turkey Achieves Carbon Neutrality Across All Adhesive Technologies Facilities

Henkel has made its GEBKİM Adhesive Technologies Factory in Kocaeli carbon-neutral. With this step, following the earlier carbon-neutral production achievement at its Istanbul Tuzla Factory, all of Henkel's Adhesive Technologies facilities in Turkey have now reached carbon-neutral production levels.

Henkel has achieved carbon neutrality at its GEBKİM Adhesive Technologies Factory in Kocaeli. With this step, following the carbon-neutral production success previously achieved at its Istanbul Tuzla Factory, all of Henkel's Adhesive Technologies facilities in Turkey have reached carbon-neutral production levels.

In addition to the GEBKİM facility, the Kurkumbh Factory in India has also transitioned to carbon-neutral production, enabling Henkel to implement carbon-neutral operations at its two largest production facilities in the India, Middle East and Africa (IMEA) region.

Towards Net Zero Through Electrification and Renewable Energy
Henkel has completed a significant electrification project at the GEBKİM Factory by replacing its natural gas-fired boiler system with a high-efficiency electric boiler system. This transformation has completely eliminated direct fossil fuel consumption at the facility; Scope 1 emissions have been reduced to zero, and approximately 956 tons of CO₂ equivalent emissions are avoided annually.

Furthermore, the facility has transitioned to 100% renewable electricity through on-site solar energy generation and the use of International Renewable Energy Certificates (I-REC). This has zeroed out Scope 2 emissions while improving energy efficiency and maintaining production capacity.

With this transformation, the GEBKİM Factory has become one of Henkel's global facilities that has zeroed out both Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions through electrification and renewable energy use.

"A Major Milestone on the Net Zero Journey"
Simon Ulmann, Vice President of Operations and Supply Chain for Henkel Adhesive Technologies IMEA Region, highlighted the strategic significance of the transformation:

"Achieving carbon-neutral production at our GEBKİM facility in Turkey and our Kurkumbh facility in India is an important step towards our net zero emissions target. We are systematically eliminating fossil fuels and transitioning to electric processes powered by renewable energy. This transformation demonstrates that our strategy is delivering concrete results at the facility level."

All Adhesive Technologies Facilities in Turkey Now Carbon Neutral
Mehmet Yılmaz, Head of Turkish Henkel Adhesive Technologies and Operations Director for the Middle East and Africa Region, noted:

"Our GEBKİM Factory achieving carbon neutrality is an important milestone on Henkel's path to our 2045 net zero target. Following our Tuzla Factory, all of our Adhesive Technologies facilities in Turkey have now reached carbon-neutral production. Through electrification and renewable energy use, we have completely eliminated fossil fuels."

Global Transformation in Sustainable Production
Henkel is accelerating the decarbonization transformation across its global production network through electrification and renewable energy investments. This approach supports the company's net zero emissions target while contributing to customers' sustainability goals. The transformation implemented at the GEBKİM Factory represents an important example in demonstrating the scalability of fossil-fuel-free production.
