Avery Dennison Performance Tapes Completes Bonding Study with Armacell
Avery Dennison Performance Tapes has published a study in collaboration with Armacell Component Foams. This study is the fourth in a series of adhesion studies designed to make it easier for converters to evaluate the performance of Avery Dennison Core Series™ Portfolio adhesive products with foams and other commonly used materials.
This latest study focuses on Armacell's Component Foams division, whose products are primarily used in the aerospace, automotive, building and construction, industrial, medical, packaging and sports/recreation segments.
The study was conducted with Armacell at the Avery Dennison Performance Tapes Painesville Innovation Center, an ISO 17025 certified facility capable of testing in various real-world conditions.
Foam bonding is affected by the foam's base polymer, thickness and cell type; adhesion to foam is affected by factors such as adhesive mass, pressure, compression, lamination speed and temperature. This study was conducted under the following conditions:
- Core Series Portfolio adhesive products were supported with 2 mil PET film and trimmed to one inch width.
- Two sample sets were laminated to Armacell Component Foam.
- All samples were tested in 180° Peel Adhesion at 12 inches/minute.
Deanne Lewis, General Industrial Product Manager at Avery Dennison Performance Tapes, said: "Our goal with this study is to leverage the expertise of our technical specialists and our first-class testing facilities to simplify the adhesive selection process for our customers. Armacell is a leader in expanded foams, and by using this study, converters can efficiently and accurately identify adhesives for Armacell Component Foams' innovative products."
Armacell's Component Foams include elastomeric and polyolefin-based foam products. Elastomeric Component Foam (ECF) products contain high-performance foams formulated to meet stringent physical and chemical property requirements. Armacell's ECF brands include ArmaSound®, ArmaSport®, EnsoLine®, EnsoLite® and Monarch®. Armacell's Polyolefin Component Foams (PCF) are made from thermoplastic polymers. Armacell's PCF brands include OleCell® and OleTex®. Isabel Wright, Senior Technical Manager at Armacell, said: "We are pleased to work with Avery Dennison and provide this resource to our customers. More than sixty years of foam innovation has enabled us to design cell structures and densities optimized for specific physical properties custom-designed to meet customer needs. This study further underscores our commitment to meeting the evolving demands of our customers."Advertisement
