Textile Sector Exports Reach USD 1.5 Billion According to data from Turkey's Exporters Assembly (TİM), Turkey's exports declined 6.4 percent year-over-year in February to USD 18.6 billion. In January-February 2023, exports rose 1.5 percent compared to the same period last year to reach USD 38 billion. Annualized export value reached USD 254.8 billion. The textiles and raw materials sector, which generated USD 880 million in exports in February 2022, achieved USD 720 million in exports in the same month this year, down 18.2 percent. The sector realized USD 1.538 billion in exports during January-February 2023, down 9.2 percent from the same period last year. Of the sector's last month's exports, USD 333 million was shipped from Istanbul. Istanbul was followed by Bursa with USD 106 million and Gaziantep with USD 91 million. Of the sector's USD 1.5 billion in exports during January-February this year, USD 677 million came from Istanbul, USD 210 million from Bursa and USD 209.9 million from Gaziantep.

Italy leads foreign sales

In the textiles and raw materials sector, Italy was the leading export destination last month with USD 58 million. Italy was followed by Belarus with USD 52 million and Russian Federation with USD 37 million. During January-February, the sector exported USD 137 million to Italy, USD 109 million to Belarus and USD 68 million to Russian Federation. Looking at country groups with the highest exports last month in the sector, EU countries ranked first with USD 273 million, Commonwealth of Independent States ranked second with USD 145 million and African countries ranked third with USD 88 million. In the first two months of this year, exports to EU countries reached USD 593 million, to Commonwealth of Independent States USD 294 million and to African countries USD 180 million. According to TİM data, the sector exported to 169 countries and regions last month, accounting for 4.4 percent of the country's total exports in the same period.
