Transformation in the Technical Textile and Composite Sectors

Transformation in Technical Textiles and Composites Sectors Results from the initial activities of the BUTEXCOMP Project, implemented for SMEs in Bursa with the aim of enhancing competitiveness in the composite materials and technical textiles sectors, were shared with sector representatives. The Composite Materials and Technical Textiles Prototype Production and Application Center (BUTEXCOMP) Technical Support Project, conducted by Bursa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BTSO), is being implemented within the framework of the Competitive Sectors Programme financed through financial cooperation between the European Union and the Republic of Turkey and managed by the Ministry of Industry and Technology. At the 'Diagnosis Studies and Needs Analysis Consultation and Dissemination Meeting' held with the participation of sector representatives, market research data and technology trends gathered based on interviews with 140 companies and needs analyses conducted with 50 companies will be adapted according to the requirements of SMEs in both sectors.

Hakan Batmaz, Member of the BTSO Board of Management, stated that the aim with BUTEXCOMP is to establish a fully integrated cluster for the two sectors, saying, "BUTEXCOMP, which will provide services in areas such as the necessary training, R&D, consulting, partnership establishment and collaborative working culture for Bursa to strengthen its position in the rapidly developing technical textiles and composites sectors of manufacturing industry, will bring significant benefits to our companies. It will enable SMEs to become part of a technologically richer, more efficient and more competitive ecosystem."

Prof. Dr. Mehmet Karahan, Director of the BUTEXCOMP Project Operation Coordination Unit, noted that the meeting is very important in shaping the future of both sectors, stating, "In cluster formation we will use the results of diagnosis studies in developing company partnership programmes, in role model and supply chain work. Supply chain in particular is very important for proper cluster formation. In diagnosis studies, cluster formation and supply chain development, we have obtained extremely useful outputs in terms of the services and training we will provide to companies and in determining BUTEXCOMP's activities."
