Sözal Kimya Targets Reduction in Water Consumption
Working towards becoming a global brand with the objective of sustainable growth, Sözal Kimya has accelerated its efforts to address the water crisis that features prominently on the global agenda. Sözal Kimya is targeting the reduction, treatment and reuse of water consumed in the textile finishing sector.
Beyond climate change and global warming, the increase in water consumption represents one of humanity's greatest crises. As we increasingly feel the effects of climate change on water resources, numerous projects have begun to be implemented with the aim of using scarce resources efficiently and economically.
In Turkey, the textile sector ranks among the highest consumers of water. Approximately 95-400 litres of water is required to produce one kilogram of textile product. Operating in Bursa and expanding its plastic, water chemicals and hygiene group investments within a sustainability framework, Sözal Kimya is carrying out determined efforts to ensure water quantity is used at minimum levels.
Highlighting the importance of treating water through different methods in the textile finishing sector to make it harmless to nature and to enable its reuse, Sözal Kimya Board Chairman Eren Sözal stated, "We are conducting research to reduce water consumption in the textile sector and to enable the use of different water sources such as seawater. Through recycling additives, we treat the water we use and reuse it, releasing it to nature in a less harmful way. We are working to treat used water through different methods to make it harmless to nature and to make it reusable."

Stating that they are concentrating on new products in this area, Sözal continued: "We are developing a washing agent for cotton fabrics by taking advantage of seawater's salty properties. This product will shorten the washing phases after reactive dyeing. Our R&D and Process Development departments are accelerating these efforts.
