Unsold Textile Products Will Not Be Destroyed The European Union (EU) is preparing to ban the destruction of unsold or surplus textile products. The Council of the European Union announced that member states have established their common positions regarding new regulations that will set ecodesign requirements for sustainable products. Accordingly, all types of goods and products placed on the EU market will be subject to environmental sustainability conditions. The ecodesign regulation will apply to all product categories. This will ensure that certain product groups are efficient in terms of both energy and resource consumption. Products must be designed to be durable, reliable, reusable, repairable, recyclable and easy to maintain. A new "Digital Product Passport" will share information about the environmental sustainability of products. The product passport will help consumers make informed choices about products and enable public authorities to conduct inspections and monitoring more easily.

Destruction of unsold consumer products will be prevented

Within this scope, direct destruction of unsold textile, footwear and apparel products will be banned. A transition period will be provided to ensure companies comply with this destruction ban. This ban will reduce the environmental impact of produced but unused clothing or accessories.
