Ready-to-Wear Sector Exports $5 Billion
Ready-made clothing and apparel sector exports worth USD 5.204 billion in January-March 2023, down 4.4% year-on-year
The sector's March exports of USD 1.4 billion were shipped from Istanbul. Istanbul was followed by Bursa with USD 165 million and Izmir with USD 129 million.
Of the sector's USD 5.2 billion in exports during January-March this year, USD 3.7 billion came from Istanbul, USD 430 million from Bursa and USD 354 million from Izmir.
Largest exports to Germany
Ready-made clothing and apparel sector exports last month were highest to Germany at USD 295 million. Germany was followed by Spain with USD 244 million and the Netherlands with USD 155 million. During January-March, the sector exported USD 862 million to Germany, USD 602 million to Spain and USD 414 million to the Netherlands. Looking at country groups with the highest exports last month, EU countries ranked first with USD 1.1 billion, Middle Eastern countries second with USD 251 million and other European countries third with USD 214 million. In the first quarter of this year, exports to EU countries reached USD 3 billion, to other European countries USD 545 million and to the Commonwealth of Independent States USD 541 million. According to TIM data, the ready-made clothing and apparel sector exported to 173 countries and regions last month, accounting for 8.5% of the country's total exports in the same period.
