Applications Open for EİB Fashion Design Competition

EİB Fashion Design Competition Applications Open With the support of the Ministry of Commerce, the Aegean Apparel and Textile Exporters Association is organizing the EİB Fashion Design Competition for the 17th time this year, and applications have begun.

Aegean Apparel and Textile Exporters Association Chairman Burak Sertbaş made the following comments on the matter:

"Since 2004, we have been giving young designers in our country the opportunity to showcase themselves and take their names to the world with original, innovative, and creative designs that transcend national borders. Our designers study at the world's most prestigious design schools through our EİB Fashion Design Competition. To date, more than 20 designers who have placed in our Fashion Design Competitions have seized the opportunity to pursue master's degrees at world-renowned fashion schools with scholarships from our Ministry. This represents a significant turning point for both our young people and the development of the Turkish Fashion Industry, as well as for our country."

EHKİB Social Organizations and Competition Committee Chairman Tuğba Hazar expressed the following view:

"As EHKİB, sustainability forms the main axis of our vision in all our projects, including our design competitions. In this year's 17th Fashion Design Competition, we are highlighting the importance of the sustainable fashion concept through our SEED concept. Our investments in our young people and designers are a guarantee for the future of our sector. This year, we have also increased our total cash prizes. We are eagerly awaiting to see the women's and men's ready-to-wear collections that they will create as "season free". We plan to hold the final of our competition in May 2023."  

EİB Fashion Design Competition

Our Fashion Design Competition, which has brought successful designers such as Emre Erdemoğlu, Merve Uçar, Mahmut Ağaç, Özlem Erkan, Orkun Sevim, and Harun Çifçi to the sector over the years, was organized in previous years with the themes Awakening, Carnival, Migration, Manipulation, Mystery, Existence, Re-FORM, Newstalgia, The Message Tech-tility, and Contact-less. The theme of the EİB 17th Fashion Design Competition this year is SEED.

Overseas education scholarship and opportunity to visit the world's most renowned trade fairs

Within the scope of the competition, finalists who place in the top three receive, in addition to cash prizes, the opportunity for overseas education upon the approval of the Ministry of Commerce. The top 10 finalists, in addition to these prizes, gain the right to visit leading fashion trade fairs in the sector, organized by EHKİB and with national participation coordinated by the EHKİB Board of Management decision. (The trade fairs visited in this scope are: Premiere Vision Paris held twice a year in Paris, France, and Munich Fabric Start held twice a year in Munich, Germany) Selen Tavtın, a finalist from the 15th EİB Fashion Design Competition, is continuing her education at Domus Academy in Milan, Italy; Ayşe Kaya, a finalist from the 15th competition, is studying at Institut Français de la Mode fashion school in Paris, France; and Eda Polat, a finalist from the 16th competition, is continuing her education at NABA fashion school in Milan, Italy.  

Exports reached USD 17.8 billion

Turkey's apparel and textile exports reached USD 17.8 billion with a 7% increase in the January-October period, while Aegean Apparel and Textile Exporters Association exports reached USD 1.2 billion with a 2% increase. The top three countries in EHKİB exports are Spain with USD 289 million, Germany with USD 287 million with an 8% increase, and the United Kingdom with USD 110 million.  

Competition theme: SEED

When we position the seed as the beginning of the formation process, we find ourselves within deep concepts—Formation (gaining form, coming into being), Becoming (existence, birth, emergence). As we push the boundaries of our perceptions, we gain the ability to fill the gaps in the repetition of being to nothingness. In a world full of limited resources, the seed is the answer to humanity's unlimited desires and needs. The concept of seed, which is the foundation of existence, encompasses within itself the existentialist movement—Existentialism is a philosophical system in which individuality comes to the fore and all aspects of human existence are examined. In this movement, the concepts of freedom and responsibility come to the forefront. Therefore, one is responsible first to one's own existence and then to others. For this very reason, the importance of the sustainable fashion concept is highlighted through the SEED concept, and we again recognize in this context the effort to consume fashion and recreate what has already been consumed.  

Fashion designer Özlem Erkan will be the mentor of designers in the EİB 17th Fashion Design Competition.

 

What are the prizes?

First Place Prize TRY 100,000 Second Place Prize TRY 75,000 Third Place Prize TRY 50,000 Overseas Education Scholarship Prize: International Trade Fair Participation     Note: Collections from the top 10 finalists will be exhibited at the Turkey Design Week event, which is expected to be organized annually under the organization of the Turkish Exporters Assembly and the coordination of the Ministry of Commerce.   Applications are being accepted at https://eib.modatasarimyarismasi.org/.
