Şanlıurfa: A Center for Footwear
The Footwear Industry Zone Project, implemented through the Ministry of Industry and Technology's Support Programme for Attraction Centers, created a new regional ecosystem while opening employment opportunities for 7,500 young people from Şanlıurfa through a two-phase project with a total budget of TRY 41.8 million.
The first phase of the Footwear Industry Zone Project was implemented through support provided under the Support Programme for Attraction Centers in collaboration with Şanlıurfa Organized Industrial Zone and the Association of Turkish Footwear Manufacturers. The first phase, completed in two years, cost TRY 23 million. Of the project budget, TRY 15.5 million was covered by the Ministry of Industry and Technology. In the second section of Şanlıurfa OSB, 13 factory buildings and 7 workshop facilities for the supply of byproducts were constructed. The number of employees in factories that began production at the end of 2019 reached 1,700. Female employment accounted for 25%. As the factories move to full capacity, the number of workers is expected to increase to 3,000 and female employment to 40%.
