Altınyıldız Converts PET Bottles into Fabric Altınyıldız converted GRS-certified polyester fiber derived from used PET bottles into wool-blend outerwear fabric, enabling 6 million PET bottles to be transformed into fabric in 2022 alone. In doing so, Altınyıldız prevented 155 tonnes of CO2 gas from entering the atmosphere. In 2021, Altınyıldız used 62.5 tonnes of GRS-certified recycled polyester fiber to convert approximately 3.4 million PET bottles into wearable materials, thereby doubling its contribution to nature. Since its establishment in 1952, Altınyıldız has positioned itself as the brand that introduced Turkish fabric to the world, and has accelerated its investments in digitalization and sustainable textiles. Working with the world's most effective recycling firms, Altınyıldız converts GRS-certified polyester fiber obtained from PET bottles into wool-blend outerwear fabrics at its facility in Çerkezköy, transforming 6 million PET bottles into wearable materials in 2022. Through production management, Altınyıldız achieved water savings of 510 thousand litres and prevented 155 tonnes of CO2 gas from entering the atmosphere. Through its work in this field, Altınyıldız prevented CO2 emissions equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of 66 households, the annual drinking water consumption of 669 people, and the consumption of 360 barrels of oil. Expanding its vision of respect for nature, Altınyıldız also doubled the number of PET bottles it converted into fabric. In 2021, using 62.5 tonnes of GRS-certified recycled polyester fiber, Altınyıldız converted approximately 3.4 million PET bottles into wearable materials; in 2022, it increased its contribution to nature by 76 percent. Altınyıldız exports the fabrics it produces to customers in Europe and America, and also produces collections from this fabric for Boyner's private brands. In line with its sustainability targets, Altınyıldız expanded its goals in effective recycling and ensured that more than 335 tonnes of textile waste generated in its 2022 production processes were recycled as raw material for new textile products.   Source
