Aksa Akrilik Invests in New Yarn Plant

Aksa Akrilik is making an investment in yarn mill production on the 50th anniversary of its transition to manufacturing, with the aim of setting a model for the sector. A new facility of 20,000 square meters will be commissioned for Aksafil, which will produce for sectors such as knitting, activewear, technical textiles and hand knitting. Board Member and General Manager Cengiz Taş stated that they prioritize new application areas for acrylic fiber, and that with the Aksafil investment they will produce high bulk acrylic yarn for the first time using Air Jet yarn spinning technology. Aksa Akrilik is marking the 50th anniversary of its start of production with a new investment. The company, which operates within Akkök Holding, one of Turkey's most established industrial enterprises, and makes average annual investments of USD 60 million, has allocated a budget of USD 27.5 million for the project. The facility, with the first phase of 10,000 square meters planned to be commissioned by year-end, is intended to introduce products manufactured with new technology under the Aksafil brand to the activewear, knitting, technical textiles and hand knitting markets. Aksa Akrilik Board Member and General Manager Cengiz Taş announced that the new investment was created through three years of joint work by Turkish and Japanese engineers and that new machine patents have been obtained.

A project of "firsts" with innovative technologies

Stating that the first phase of the investment will produce 2,500 tons of yarn per year and the second phase 7,500 tons per year, Taş said: "Aksafil, which we are proud to bring to life in Aksa Akrilik's 50th year, is in fact introducing a technology applied for the first time in the world to the sector. For the first time at Aksafil, we will produce 100 percent acrylic high bulk airjet and corespun yarn. While bringing a new business model and excitement with Air Jet Yarn Spinning technology to the flat knit sector where we are leaders and to bulked yarn, we aim to develop special products in our expanding business areas" he said.

Yarn output speed of 550 meters per minute will be achieved

Taş explained why they chose Air Jet Yarn Spinning technology with these words: "The system provides less hairiness and a cleaner appearance in products, and with yarn output speed of 550 meters per minute being achieved, costs are reduced and efficiency increases. In addition to high moisture absorption, compared to other yarn spinning systems it is a functional technology with high resistance to pilling, abrasion and washing. We invite all our customers to our facility, which will be a model for the yarn sector" he said.

Acrylic fiber will be used in short staple yarn production

Continuing his remarks, Taş disclosed Aksafil's objectives. Stating that they aim to use acrylic fiber with new technologies in short staple yarn production, Taş noted: "As Aksa Akrilik, throughout our half-century history we have prioritized finding new application areas for acrylic fiber. In this direction, with Aksafil we want to enable the use of acrylic fiber in the new yarn spinning technology Air Jet technique as well. Thanks to our investment, while offering a completely new acrylic experience we will build a factory that will be a model in the sector with efficiency and environmentally-conscious, nature-respecting production. With our employment target of 200 new jobs, by prioritizing women we will support participation in the workforce with nearly 50 percent female employee ratio. We will continue our investments that add value to Turkey with the goal of sustainable growth".
